Transitioning from one season of our life into another isn’t always the simplest thing to do, but they can become easier with God’s help.
We live in a world that gets by with being comfortable. No one is normally open to the idea of stepping out of their comfort zone, and change is something that is typically unheard of.
Being a young adult in college is an exception to the luxury of being comfortable. We are constantly encouraged to get out and try new things, and we never have a set schedule for longer than four months. Once we start to get comfortable and used to things, something new comes our way. Adjusting to new things becomes our second nature.
No matter how flexible I have become or how well I can adjust to new things, I cannot seem to cope with the fact that I only have one year left of school. I’ve developed a fear of not knowing what I’m doing next. Going to school is all I’ve known my entire life, so the fact that I have to start making “big girl” decisions scares me to death.
I think that this is something that everyone faces at some point in their life. We don’t always know what the next chapter holds for us, and it can start to become a burden that we carry around with us.
One thing that I’ve learned is that we don’t have to fear anything because God holds our future, and He doesn’t want us to feel like we need to carry the burden of our futures around like it’s in our hands. We can’t see the big picture, but He can. We just have to learn to be obedient to His direction and understand that He has our best interest.
That’s easier said than done. Sometimes it’s hard to be patient and wait for God to direct us because he doesn’t work with our schedule. We can plan all we want, but I’m never surprised when he decides to change things up a little.
This is a common verse, but a verse that can bring so much hope and reassurance to our fears. In scripture Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
The good news from this verse is that God declares prosperous plans over us. He wants us to succeed, and He would never do anything to create a crooked or failing path for us. The bad news is that nowhere in that verse does it say that God will show us everything we need to know. He also doesn’t say that the path to His plans for us will be easy.
One last thing that gives me hope for my future is that God is with me every step of the way. He never leaves my side, and He promises me that I can lean on him when times are hard and I can’t seem to continue on with using my own strength.
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Isaiah 41:10
