Despite the temperamental weather, one of the best parts about Indiana are it's universities. IU being one of the best (you know it's true), supplies it's students with more than just education. If you go to IU, you know certain traditions are kept alive and are cherished by students and alumni. So, this is what 've picked up so far during my time at IU.
Being a transfer student, I never really got the IU freshman experience. But, it didn't take me long to pick up on all the little things the university has to offer. In comparison to the school I went to my freshman year, IU was a complete 180. A bigger school meant for even more experiences to be had and more opportunities to explore. This also meant that the way I got my education was totally different, and showed me that it could be more than overwhelming 90 percent of the time.
Tailgating in the fall is by far one of my favorite parts of coming back to school. Because my other university wasn't as spirited in sports in comparison to IU, that was a lot to take in. I enjoy the weather, the memories, and the food of course. Breakfast club has also been a pretty interesting tradition that I've discovered as well. Who doesn't love to wake up at six a.m. to get a t-shirt and breakfast (long island's too) from KOK? However, this was a Purdue tradition first and then we followed suit years after, which I think was a brilliant decision.
Before coming here, I had visited almost every other weekend because of how close my other university was and because majority of my friends went here. I think that was a pretty big reason why I chose to transfer initially. But the more I looked into it, the more I realized that for my future career, I definitely need to be at IU. The university does a great job with things like involvement fairs and career fairs.
The more professional experience you have, the more you gain from going here. Majority of these events are held in the IMU, another staple on campus that carries a lot of history and tradition. During breaks in class, students (including myself) sit and drink coffee at Starbucks and cram in whatever homework we didn't do over the weekend.
I think overall my experience here and transitioning into a new school has been a positive one. I don't think I would be where I am professionally or academically anywhere else but IU. When it comes to celebrating a win from our teams, or participating in the extracurriculars and clubs offered, the university does a great job in making sure everyone feels at home.
