TRANGENDER AWARENESS MONTH
The month of November is Transgender Awareness Month. Its purpose is to draw attention, and build support for the transgender community. On the twentieth day of the month people take time to remember and mourn the individuals whose lives were so wrongfully taken from them that year, this day is known as the Transgender Day of Remembrance. On this day many people find solace by performing a candlelight vigil, which may be conducted individually or in groups. Many groups will stand silently in a circle holding candles while one individual reads aloud the names and ages of the people who were killed that year. To conclude the 2016 Transgender Awareness Month, original music by Natalie Turner, with Shel Silverstein's poem "Where the Sidewalk Ends" has been selected to pay tribute to the individuals who fell victim to the hate, and prejudice around the world this year.
