I knew I wanted to attend College of Charleston by the end of my junior year in high school. I ended up staying home for the first year of college and attended a local community college.
Now, I'm glad I did because you save money by getting some general classes out of the way. I only started getting stressed out when I had to apply to the College as a transfer student. The application was pretty easy, it was the figuring out what classes were going to transfer. I was kind of freaking out, to say the least, because I did not want to start all over as a freshman, and basically just wasted one year of classes. At first, I thought they weren't going to accept any but thankfully, the College accepted all my credits besides three. Eventually, it was time to make the move down to Charleston.
It can be nerve-racking moving somewhere where you know absolutely nobody. I thought about rushing but ultimately, decided against it. I do at times regret not rushing because it is hard to meet people as a transfer student. Most people have their friends from freshman year and their groups. I thought it would be an easy transition transferring but it was difficult.
In all the classes I've taken, rarely anybody talks or it takes everyone a month or two to warm up and then start talking. It just takes time to meet people. At the moment, I'm also working which has helped meet people, especially students who also attend The College. The majority of people I have met are transfer students and they understand how difficult it can be as a transfer student to meet people.
Even though the transition has been hard, I would not trade my experience at The College for anything else.
