Traits You Have When You're 19 Going On 79

As much as we try to fight it, some of us just have old souls at a very early age. If you’re one of the lucky, easily satisfied few, here are some characteristics about you.

1. You know how to cook.

Not only do you know, but you love it. For nearly any social gathering, you’ll offer to make something just because. More so than just popping things in the microwave or oven, you can read off of recipes and maybe even measure out a few ingredients.

2. You know how to sew.

Nothing too major, but it’s no problem for you to repair a hole or rip in anything.

3. You own an iron.

Because you hate wrinkles and love looking presentable.

4. You have no problem saying no to going out.

When you’ve had a long day of work, class or you just don’t feel like leaving the house at 10 p.m., you have absolutely no problem resting with a good book and cup of tea. You’re pretty shameless about it, really.

5. You love a good movie.

Really and truly, a movie night with good company is an ideal night.

6. You like to sleep.

Not the kind of sleep where you stay up late and sleep until noon sleep, but balanced sleep. You’re in bed by a decent hour and up by a decent hour too, most likely before anyone else on both ends.

7. You keep a schedule.

A little spontaneity never killed anybody, but you have to be reminded of that because you're a creature of habit. You really like knowing what your day looks like so you can prepare for it, and you're not really one to “go with the flow.”

8. You appreciate the little things.

The little things such as a nice breeze, running into someone that you didn't expect to see or some really good music mean more to you than most people.

9. You love things that most people have never heard of.

Speaking of that good music and those books, they’re either from time periods no one pays much attention to or from a really unpopular source. You can talk about your fascination all you want while your friends will smile and nod, but few people will actually know what you’re talking a bout.

10. You’re a traditionalist.

You can go along with significant changes to society, but you have core values that are at the heart of why you are. With this, it’s still the little things: lack of phone usage, boys coming up to your door for a date and spending quality time with people.

11. Your sense of humor isn't the best.

Well, other people don't think it is. You think it’s great that you're amused by a corny joke, street sign or commercial. Honestly, the cheesier the better.

12. You’re good at keeping up with people.

Not only that, but you love it. You really value relationships and know how to put effort into them.

13. You’re smart about money.

You just don't see the value in blowing it off, your money is cherished because you know how it’s earned.

14. You’re technologically impaired.

You know a solid half of what people your age know about how to use anything electronic, and you really don't care to learn unless you have to. God bless your friends, because they’re always explaining things to you, making fun of you minimally.

15. Peer pressure has never applied to you.

Above all else, you’re completely content doing your own thing and you don't feel like you’re missing out on any new trend that you just don’t understand or want to be a part of. You know how to make your life exactly what you want it to be, and you’re unashamedly you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
