Paramus, New Jersey has over 26,000 residents. Paramus is a big town, but during tragedy, we get that small town feel. On May 17, 2018, our town had a tragedy that will never be forgotten, East Brook Middle School 5th grade class was in a major bus accident. There were 45 people on the bus, 38 lives were students.
When I first heard about the bus accident I had no idea what was going on, I was receiving texts from family and friends asking where my sisters were. Both my sisters are older and attend different schools. I turned on the news and could not believe that this was a Paramus bus.
I thought about all the times I was growing up and how I took the bus. I thought about all the times I went on a field trip. I thought about the victims and their families and I prayed.
When something happens to kids, I usually look to god and ask why. These kids did not deserve this they were looking forward to their class trip, but instead, this happens. It makes me angry and extremely sad. Being angry will not do anything though, all I can do is pray.
When there is a tragedy it really does not matter what middle school you go or went to because everyone is part of the same community. Everyone knows someone who was affected by this tragedy and everyone in the community hurts. This hit home, and made me realize that life is precious and you do not know when your time is up.
Paramus is going to overcome this difficult time because as a community we are definitely stronger. I pray for the victims that are in recovery. I pray for Miranda and Mrs. Williamson may they rest in peace. My deepest condolences to the families. East Brook will overcome this because they have an entire community behind them.
