As we trade in our surfboards for textbooks and the trees start to change color (for anyone who isn't in California and actually experiences seasons) we all know that the end of summer is upon us and fall is rearing its pumpkin spiced head. Although getting back in the swing of academics may seem dreary, the silver lining of back to school shopping is imminent. While back to school shopping is fun and you have an excuse to buy out all of Target, a great deal of back to school staples are not ethical and are often made in sweatshops with underpaid and overworked women and men oversees. Here are some swaps that can help back to school shopping benefit everybody involved!

Not only are Adidas super stylish and popular (thanks Kanye), they are also made in a manner in which every person involved in the production of these shoes are paid a living wage in safe working conditions.

1. Nike Roshe Run - Adidas Superstar Shoe

Not only are Adidas super stylish and popular (thanks Kanye), they are also made in a manner in which every person involved in the production of these shoes are paid a living wage in safe working conditions. Walk with confidence and pride in knowing that your purchase is going to a great company with solid morals.

2. Converse Chuck Taylors - Toms Paseo Sneaker

TOMS are not only made ethically (and very cute), for every pair you buy, they will donate a pair to a child in need. How can you not want to support such a great company?

3. North Face Denali Jacket - Patagonia Better 1/4 Zip Fleece

Gone are the days of matching with 12 year olds wearing their UGG boots, North Face jackets, and sporting a Starbucks. Now, keep warm and look cute while supporting a great cause. Patagonia is an amazing brand that promotes sustainable and ethical clothing that helps both the environment AND humans.

4. Contigo Water Bottles- Klean Kanteen

Not only is this bottle insulated and can keep liquids cold for up to 50 hours and hot for up to 24 hours but it is also made out of sustainable materials in factories in China where those working are paid a living wage. Bottoms up!

5. Jansport Backpack - Amici Accessories

Jansport Backpacks are a staple in every stage of school from elementary to college. Now, however, you can keep the same stylish shape backpack that you love knowing that nobody was taken advantage of in the process of creating your backpack!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
