The Power Of Music

Music is the greatest gift from God

Music. It's one of the most beautiful things we have on this earth and one of the "greatest gifts from God". We are such a blessed species to have such a beautiful craft.

Music is one the most important elements for humans. Simply listening to music can destress any person. And although there are so many genres to choose from - rap, pop, country, choral, show tunes, instrumental, religious and so many more - only one needs to grab you and you now have an undying love for music. For me, when I need to destress I usually listen to Adele (yes I'm corny) but I also switch it up to choral music every once and a while. The harmonies in choral music are so relaxing and beautiful that being able to just lay down, plug in some headphones and listen to Eric Whitacre's "Alleluia" is so amazing. Hearing all the parts overlay is so moving it sometimes brings tears to my eyes (again, I know I'm corny).

Music is one of the most interesting things to ever learn. When you learn music, not only are you learning a lifelong skill you are learning another language. And although you don't learn Spanish or Italian (unless you're a vocal student, like me, then you are), you still learn how to read notes on a staff and then you have a chord, and then you have this beautiful piece of music. You learn to know what pitches go with which notes, you learn what notes go where on a staff and how to play them or sing them.

However, music is also there for us when we're laughing and having a good die. When I'm in a really good mood, I'm not gonna lie, I like to blast a wide range of music - anywhere from "Hamilton" to Smash Mouths "All - Star" to Dixie Chicks "Cowboy Take Me Away" to Michael Bublé's "Haven't Met You Yet". Music makes us feel so much better inside and even after just a couple of minutes of it, can make a day go from good to great.

Music impacts us in so many ways. There are so many different cultures that have different songs in languages and different meanings of songs. The amount of change music has done, is so moving and so glorious. I cannot wait to see where music does next and what this beautiful art has in store for the next 100+ years.

Always be grateful for the things we have and never take Music for granted.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
