No Means No

Not everyone can fight off an attacker.

No Means No

Honor, Integrity, Anger, Ashamed, Worthless, Beaten.

Many people walk the streets with a past that some may or may not know about. Some can only come out of that shell made of steel, in order to protect others from the same fate. No one prances around, asking to be raped or made to feel in such a way that they are worth nothing anymore. No one. We are subjected to some of the worst things imaginable and yet, we still know very little about what actually goes on in a male vs female brain. Not everybody can withstand an attack that both mentally and physically affects you forever. It's horrifying.

Rape Culture isn't something to be shared like a joke or a figurative speech. It's real. It's Gruesome, devastating and something you don't come back from. Most think that rape only happens to women, when in all honesty, this is so not true. Some don't see it as a problem, some see it as something that's disgusting. Men are raped. Women are raped. Women speak out more than Men due to the fact that if men speak out, they are judged horribly. Seeing as if they could fight off everything that comes their way when some can't. We always have so many people feeling bad for women, yet no one understand when it comes to men who are straight, bi, gay, trans. No one understands how much pain they go through, the nightmares they face, the running shoes they wear to bed at night just in case they need to run.

Men are just as much victims as women, even more so. They are targeted for their sexual preference, some even straight and will never talk about it because inside they feel as if they caused it themselves. Men and women each have a place in this world and it is NOT to someone who thinks they deserve to power and control over another. This idea that women are the only ones who deal with those problems is wrong and needs to re-done into something we can all agree on. It's not just my gender that has a right to take down attackers. Men have it too. They should recognized, not ashamed.

We act as if men are made of steel, that they hold everything that a true man should be. The truth is that 1 out of every 10 rape victims are male. "Boys are supposed to like this." "I should have fended him off like a real man." "Men can't get raped." "You're a guy, you can't say no to a girl like me." Men go through this trash talk just as much as women, even more so due to the fact of their gender. Male. Dominant. Power. Everything we label them as and yet, it's very possible for one to be subjected to something he hates with all his heart. We are not here to judge them, we are here to listen, understand, help, give hope, and strengthen their belief in themselves. Women speak out more because they are always seen as the secondary power. Men are never given the benefit of the doubt. No, they are told to keep quiet.

They should not have to keep quiet about something that they every right to feel horrible about. It wasn't their fault. It wasn't how they dressed, it wasn't how they looked. It was the fact their sexual preference would keep the quiet. Men have as many rights as Women do, and I, being a woman, think they deserve to be heard. We are not here to be subjected to cruelty by our own kind. Humans tear up and slaughter each other in droves. We need to LISTEN for once.

I know I am listening. Are you?

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
