This week I will be discussing the one topic everyone needs to read about in the College Station area. The lone and behold question of which one is better: Torchy's or Fuego? I'm pretty sure most college students have wondered this at least once. We have a new player in the game College Station and Fuego is finally starting to have some competition.
Let's start out with the original College Station classic, Fuego. Most people could admit that they have waited a good while just to get some of that grub. The great thing about Fuego is how fast pace the restaurant works. I mean these people are on point about getting customers in and out to maximize their business. More additions are being added like the Southern Comfort, I-Chee-WaWa and The King. But the originals like the Fuego Steak and the Dr.Pepper Cowboy are musts to try if you go to A&M. Prices can range from 2 to 10 bucks. I often find myself digging up loose change to buy some breakfast burritos (they are the cheapest on the menu). Another great addition to Fuego is the mini food bar they have set up inside. There is always endless pico and cucumbers which is a big plus. The meat from Fuego can be a bit chewy at times but they make up for it by putting a variety of ingredients in the tacos. Especially after a rough night at Northgate, Fuego is right around the corner. Yes, sometimes there are lines out the door but give it 10 minutes and you will find yourself by the cash register.
Everyone wants to always go to the new, cool place in town. For right now, Torchy's is really killing it with business. There are constant lines out the door and people will go to drastic measures to eat there. I would say that Torchy's has a couple things that Fuego does not. This includes better sauce, ambience, and seating. The prices are pretty constant and there is not a big range that you have to deal with. Also if you look online you can take a test to see which taco is best for your tastebuds. I think Torchy's gets much of their credit for being the place with unique tacos. They put some ingredients in tacos that you would never think would work but somehow do. The only thing is the lines and time management style. Sometimes I have to take a double take and look at the people that stretch out the door. Eventually, the Torchy's craze will calm down, but for now just try to be patient. I do gotta give one thing to Torchy's, though, and that is their queso. Make that be the first thing you get for all the new customers. In all, I recommend everyone to try it at least once because this chain is very well known.
So my conclusion is this:
Pros of Fuego: fast, reliable, classic and the side bar. Pros of Torchy's: unique, new, and the ambience.
I seemed to be biased towards Fuego since I have already lived here for two years, but I encourage everyone to go to both to find out for themselves.
