As a society, we can come to the consensus that memes are funny and bring a little laughter to a world where many terrible things continue to happen. But we also like to act as though if someone doesn't find a meme funny that we think is hilarious, then suddenly they are "being too sensitive" or are "stopping people from having fun" or even get accused of "trying to censor people." Now, I'm all for freedom of speech. And I'm sure there are probably some things that I personally find funny that maybe others don't. But nonetheless, jokes and memes keep popping up that make fun of rather tasteless topics that instead of being funny make the joker look as though they're uneducated, heartless, and someone who will just make a joke about anything rather than making meaningful jokes.

Holocaust jokes are the worst of the worst.

These jokes, always and forever, will never be funny. The lives of 6 million were lost in absolutely horrific ways. This isn't something you make ever make light of or joke around about. The fact that you have to stoop so low as to make fun of this really goes to show how much you lack in funniness. People being gassed to death and then burned. People being lined up, shot at, and then thrown in a ditch with countless others who have lost their lives. I could recall countless other facts about the Holocaust that I've been taught over the years, but that's not necessary. Making jokes about this terrible part of history makes one the lowest kind of person. And laughing about them is just as bad.

Rape jokes are never funny.

This is another group of meme jokes that have been floating around the internet as of late. They are sick, heartless and overall rather shallow. Turning an event that will haunt the victim for the rest of his, her or their life into some kind of joke or entertainment is rather horrible. This isn't me being "a girl" or a "feminist" or whatever. This is me, a decent human being, telling you to also be a decent human being. My gender has nothing to do with how offensive these jokes are. Refraining from certain topics to put in memes or jokes doesn't mean you're being censored in the negative sort of way. It means as a collective we are thinking about others before we think about what will make us internet famous.

Finding comedy in everything doesn't make you creative...

If you have to search in the lowest of places to find material for your comedy, then maybe that's a sign that it's not meant to be. You don't get crowned "creative" because you mock or make fun of topics that are rather sensitive, offensive, and overall tasteless. Rather your title will be "inept", "insulting", or "uneducated". All I ask is that you think before you create. Honestly, making these kinds of jokes could be rather detrimental to your own success at being internet famous or a meme trend-setter, or a comedic person. Be thoughtful and imaginative and original. Not hurtful and dull and fruitless.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
