When people are packing for a trip, they always know to bring essentials, like clothes, toiletries, etc. However, there are plenty of things that might be slightly unusual that I highly recommend you bring, especially if you are going on a trip to a developing nation.
1. Energy Drink Packets
This is by far number one on my list. If you're going on a missions trip especially, you never know what your schedule is. If you're a committed coffee drinker like me, you crash and burn without caffeine. I brought Crystal Light Energy with me on my trip to Lebanon and honestly it was a life saver.
2. Protein Bars
Like number one, sometimes you don't know when you're going to eat next when you're busy on the road. ThinkThin has energy bars that have 20 grams of protein in them. They are tiny bars of energy.
3. Airplane Mode On
If you're in a place half way across the world, my best guess was that it cost you a decent amount of money to get you there. You can stare at your phone once you're at home. When I was in Zambia and Lebanon, I only used my phone to take pictures and save contacts. Having the freedom to experience a whole new culture without the stress of home is one of the best tips I can give you.
4. Portable Charger
Even though you should keep your phone usage to a minimum, you should always have a back up plan if you need to call someone for an emergency. Trust me when I say this, you do not want to have a dead phone while you're in a place you don't know.
5. Keepsake From Home
If you're traveling somewhere for a few weeks or more, there are going to be times when you're extremely homesick. At times you'll feel overwhelmed by all of the new visual stimuli that you made need time with something familiar. A few pictures of those you love are always a good idea to pack away on your trip.
