Ever get tired of watching remakes? It seems that all Hollywood knows how to do anymore is recycle old material and completely destroy it. You may be the person that actually thinks the remakes you watch are great. Me on the other hand, I think most remakes are done by people that have terrible visions of what the remake is supposed to be like. Do you think there will ever come a day Hollywood will get the message that their remakes are tanking and just come up with ideas of their own? I guess time will tell. Below is my top ten remakes of the upcoming years. Who knows, maybe one of them will be your favorite.
10. "Jumanji"
"Jumanji" is the film I grew up watching. At the time of its release in 1995, in my opinion, it was slightly ahead of its time. A story about playing a game and everything in the game comes to life until its over? I used to think it would be so cool to have a game like that, but after watching the original recently, I find myself respecting the original and do not intend to see a remake. The remake stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson with Kevin Hart, and Jack Black. The film is set to be released July 28th 2017.
9. "The Crow"
Everyone knows "The Crow" as Brandon Lee's last film. What made the original so popular was because of Brandon Lee's unfortunate on-set death. Brandon Lee was an amazing actor and I am sure an amazing person as well. I do not think any remake could compare to Lee's performance in this film. I like the original film for two reasons. One is because Brandon Lee and the other is the plot. The film is about a man being murdered and comes back to take revenge on his fiancée's killer. Everything seems right about this film. The only way I would watch the remake is if the cast fit the bill.
8. "Ben-Hur"
"Ben-Hur" has always seemed like it had a great plot for a movie. Unfortunately the film lacks in everything else. The movie is about a man that was a slave and comes back to take out revenge on his friend that betrayed him. Just by reading the plot and looking at the poster it seems to be a great summer Blockbuster. When I watched the trailer it just didn't grab me. The cast playing a film gets movie goers to spend their money to see their favorite people. This remake has mostly all no named actors, which I respect, but not for a remake. The remake will be released August 19th 2016.
7. "Scarface"
I have never really been a fan of gangster films. The only reason I even watched the original in the first place was because of all the hype. This ranks lower on my list because I know the remake is probably going to be bloodier and just as bad.
6. "The Mummy"
As you can already see, Tom Cruise is set to star in the reboot of "The Mummy". The reboot should be released June 9, 2017. To me, this is just another action film. When I first saw the original film staring Brendan Fraser it was something new and fresh. I had never seen a film like it before and I enjoyed the character development. I am not sure what is to come with this reboot, however I will most likely see it - but I do not think it is going to be anything more than a 2017 action flick.
5. "Death Wish"
If you are into action/revenge/justice type films, then this is the movie for you. "Death Wish" is about a man in New York City that becomes a vigilante after his wife and daughter are attacked in their home. I believe that once this remake hits the box office it will be an instant hit. "Death Wish" has never been my favorite film, but I will go see the remake when it is released, most likely in 2017. The remake is set to star Bruce Willis.
4. "The Birds"
"The Birds" is such a classic film by the legendary Alfred Hitchcock. I remember watching the movie and being captivated by the characters and how each of them were dealing with their current situation differently. As always, Alfred Hitchcock leaves the ending up to the audience's imagination. Basically, the person watching the film determines in their mind what they think happened to the characters after the film stopped rolling. I am usually not one for the "GUESS" ending, but this film is such a classic. I rate this four on the list because I enjoyed the original and so much time has passed that a remake may be decent.
3. "Jacob's Ladder"
"Jacob's Ladder" is one of my all time favorite films. I really loved the message I took for this film. If you haven't already seen the film I highly recommend it. "Jacob's Ladder" is about a man who served in the Vietnam war that is finding himself suffering from delusions, enough to the point where he cannot tell what's real and what's not. I am not completely excited to see this remake. I do not even know if I will watch it. Tim Robbins, who played the original main character, was so phenomenal that I felt for his character and everything he went through and was going through throughout the film. I just do not see this taking place in the remake. However, this film did make number three on the list because I am a sucker for the original and have hope for the remake. It is undetermined at this time when the remake will be released, but the "Grey's Anatomy" actor Jesse Williams is tied to the film.
2. "Dirty Dancing"
Okay everybody. What are you feeling right now as you read that "Dirty Dancing" is being remade? Are you excited? I know I was when I heard. I was until I found out that it's being turned into a three hour musical on ABC. There is nothing I dislike more in a movie than musicals. There are some exceptions, but seeing "Dirty Dancing" the musical? It just doesn't sit well with me. "Dirty Dancing" has always been a classic coming of age romance for me. Even though I am disappointed this film is not going to be a cinematic feature, I most likely will watch it online at some point just because I am curious. I know I will not enjoy it as much as the original. "Dirty Dancing" ranks two on the list because the original speaks for itself.
1. "IT"
Do any of you remember that scary clown movie you grew up with? Well, there's going to be a remake! I cannot express how excited I was when I found out the Stephen King classic was being remade for the cinematic screen. What makes this remake even better is Bill Skarsgård. Bill was cast to play Pennywise the clown. For some of you who do not know this film, it is about seven friends who are being terrorized by a demon who is disguising itself as a clown. Years later the old friends get together to take down Pennywise once and for all. The remake is set to be released September 8th, 2017.
