I am not much of a television show watcher, and I certainly am not one to sit down and watch multiple episodes of one show in one sitting, but there are certain shows with which I can make an exception. Through a shorter list this week, I will be going over my top three TV shows that I could watch for a few hours a day without a problem.
3. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
My first choice is the hilarious comedy It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. A group of narcissistic bar owners spend each episode doing some antics in order to benefit themselves. Sometimes they will even go against each other in order to come out on top. This is my most recent show that I have admittedly binge watched and I have yet to see the entire 11 seasons, but I am looking forward to watching every episode that has been produced up to this point. Fortunately, the show is still ongoing, and with the great cast of Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton, Charlie Day, Kaitlin Olson, and Danny DeVito, I am very excited to see what season 12 will bring. Lifespan of show: 2005-present.
2. South Park
Everyone knows the show of South Park. Being around for 20 years, this raunchy comedy cartoon has been going strong as one of the main shows on Comedy Central. It's twentieth season started only two weeks ago, and the creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are as hilarious as ever. With jokes that revolve around current events in United States' society, South Park continues to be relevant, and with ten to fifteen episodes a season, this show has plenty of content to keep the viewer occupied. Personally, I have watched about ten seasons in full and I currently look forward to every Wednesday to see what Eric Cartman, Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, and Kenny McCormick are up to next. Something of note that I have enjoyed about recent seasons are that in addition to having themes that show per episode, each season has an overarching plot that will make each episode build off each other. This keeps the viewer hooked every week. Lifespan of show: 1997-present.
1. Rick and Morty
The most recently created show on this list is also my favorite to watch. With only two seasons so far, Rick and Morty has already made iconic lines that make their way onto pop-culture t-shirts and the typical conversation of the college-aged generation. With lines such as "Get Schwifty," creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon know how to make things that have no concrete meaning into a hilarious premise for each episode. A lot of the dark humor in this cartoon comes from the cynical outlook on life that the grandfather, Rick Sanchez has. He drags his grandson Morty on adventures through space and different dimensions for seemingly no reason at all. As can be seen by the picture above, Rick's carefree attitude is coupled with Morty's cautious and concerned attitude for his well-being. Much of the adult swim community cannot wait for the third season to come out, as it has been a long time (about a year) since the second season ended. This is the only show on the list that I have seen every episode, and I have even watched the whole series through a few times. It is just one of those shows that never gets old. Lifespan of show: 2013-present.
Thank you for reading! I know that some very popular shows such as Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, or The Walking Dead are not included on this list, but I have just never been convinced to watch them. I'm sure that eventually I will get around to it and have an updated and more expansive list that include shows that everyone talks about, but for now, I will remain the casual TV watcher who only binge watches shows that create an exemplary exception.
