As another year comes to an end, people begin to look back at their highs and lows of 2016. Trends and crazes are something unique with each year. It’s pretty cool to watch something blossom into a worldwide trend. When and how exactly do trends start? That’s a tough question to answer, but it’s amazing to look back and realize how many trends there were and how many we actually participated in. So, below is a list of the top 10 trends for 2016 that any basic white girl most likely participated in.

1. Oversized metallic balloons

What better way to celebrate a 21st birthday than with huge, gold balloons?

2. Chokers

When I was growing up, I used to rock the choker every day. Looking back at pictures of me, I remember thinking my tattoo choker was the dorkiest thing. Well, here I am, 12 years later, wearing them again.

3. Pool floaties

Girls lying out on giant blow up unicorns, pizzas or swans blew up my Instagram feed like crazy this summer. Somehow this became a huge craze. Will these floaties be making another appearance in 2017?

4. Attacking Instagram for copying Snapchat with Instagram stories, but eventually using it

Instagram got major heat from people when they added stories to their app. Today, more and more people are joining in and doing it. Maybe we’re just getting too lazy to open the Snapchat app.

5. Having a Calvin Klein matching bra and underwear set

I really appreciate this trend because these sets can be so comfy. But, don’t really understand why people want their Calvins to be seen when their wearing jeans. Interesting.

6. Watching and sharing food videos on Facebook

I am so guilty of doing this. I check the Tasty Facebook page hourly to see if they’ve posted anything. Plus, I follow five other food pages, so there are plenty of food videos on my newsfeed.

7. One-piece bathing suits

Just like the chokers, I used to wear these as a child. I never ever imagined them coming back in style. But, here we have Taylor Swift’s “squad” wearing them, so they are cool.

8. Bright, bold lips

Thank you Kylie Jenner for this trend. Ever since she created the lip kits, girls have been plumping their lips any way they can. Including, the Kyle Jenner Lip Challenge.

9. Turning cauliflower into everything

In 2016, a big revelation was cauliflower can actually be a delicious vegetable, once you turn it into a pizza crust or cauliflower nachos. Start googling those cauliflower recipes ladies because that means lower carbs!

10. Harambe

This Cincinnati Zoo Gorilla was a craze for everyone. He became instantly famous and has to be one of the biggest memes of 2016. It seemed like everything people were doing was “for Harambe”. We will miss you Harambe.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Syllabus Week As Told By Kourtney Kardashian

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.
