Now that finals are over and so is school you might be wondering what to do with all your free time. The answer is simple, turn on Netflix and watch these top three-holiday themed rom-coms.

Serendipity

Is the tale of two strangers meeting on Christmas in New York City. Jonathan (Joan Cusack) and Sara (Kate Beckinsale) meet in in a department store trying to buy the same pair of gloves. As the story progresses the two have an inexplicably romantic night, even though each one is in a relationship. Sara tries to explain to Jonathan that fate has a big role in the decisions made in her life, including whether they’ll meet again. At the end of the night they both decide to place their contact information on a dollar bill and a book that they’ll put back out into the universe and if they find it then they will meet up again. It is years later when they are both set to marry different people that they scramble to find each other again. This heartwarming tale is about finding your way to your one true love no matter what.

While You Were Sleeping

Tells the story of a young transit worker named Lucy (Sandra Bullock) who becomes fed up with being lonely every year. On Christmas, she saves the life of a man (Peter Gallagher) she has had a crush on for a while, but doesn’t know anything about him. After being mugged the man falls onto the tracks of an oncoming train. Its then that Lucy jumps onto the tracks to save him. He falls into a comma and in the hospital, a nurse misinterprets her words, “I was going to marry him” and from that moment on she becomes entangled in this man’s life. She meets his family who adore her, but then she meets the man’s brother (Bill Pullman) who throughout the movie questions Lucy’s authenticity. But as he pries into who she is they both end up falling in love. It is then that Lucy must decide who she really loves.

Holiday Engagement

This is probably the only Hallmark movie I will ever endorse (But who knows) and while the story takes place during Thanksgiving its close enough to Christmas. Hillary burns (Bonnie Somerville) has never quite been able to satisfy her overbearing mother when it comes to finding the right guy. Her family is eager for her to get married, but alas she hasn’t been able to find the right guy, that is until now. She has a successful boyfriend and everything seems to be going great. That is until he breaks up with her. She then scrabbles to find a replacement for her fiancé as the holiday weekend approaches. After placing an ad online, she finds David (Jordan Bridges) an actor looking for a gig. Throughout the weekend David pretends to be Hillary’s fiancé for her family and along the way the lying becomes blurred with reality and the two soon find themselves falling for each other.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
