It’s so weird to think that exactly a year ago, I received my acceptance letter from the college I currently attend. At that time, I had no clue that it was going to even be the college I would end up choosing let alone be able to fathom anything else about what the next year would look like. Now that my first semester is (almost) over, I wish I could go back and tell my high school self that every last assumption I had about what my life would be like now has been tossed out. And, more or less, for the better.

1. That girl you’re thinking of rooming with? Think again.

You and that film major from the next town over that seems really chill have literally nothing in common, and long story short you’ll end up living with the quiet girl who sits behind you in economics. Trust me, you're gonna love it.

2. Oh, and that intended major you thought you were going to stick with forever and ever? Rethink that one, too.

Call it what you want, but the day after a certain major political event happened in the United States I changed my major from film to political science. Glad we realized we had nothing in common with your intended roommate, huh?

3. Not all sorority girls are the hot, skinny, Barbie-types that you always hated.

Spoiler alert: you may even decide to rush.

4. Judging people right off the bat didn’t work in high school, and it DEFINITELY won’t work now.

What you missed going into college is that everyone was there more or less for the same reason you are: to get a fresh start. In that situation, the best thing you can give someone is an unadulterated lack of judgement, and in doing so you'll end up surrounded by some pretty freaking awesome people.

5. Living on a floor with mostly guys sounds awesome in theory, because what girl wouldn’t want to open her door at any moment and see a hot football player walking down the hall without a shirt on?

You’re that girl. College boys are the WORST.

6. You’re so driven to do well in school you don’t even know it.

And, going into finals week, you'll have all A’s for the first time in years.

7. Athletic girls aren’t as bad as you thought.

I know the athletic girls in high school weren’t exactly nice to you, but trust me on this one. That athlete girl you wanted to hate became the best friend you ever had.

8. You’re not NOT gonna call your mom just to say hi on the regular.

And as much as she denies it, some weeks you pick up the phone first way more often than she does.

9. You’re dumb if you think going after the first cute guy you see is a good idea.

Yes, I know that’s what I ended up doing, but NEVER AGAIN!!!

10. Living on your own will actually prove to be a good thing, because you’re an independent b@!#h and were born ready for this no matter how much doubt was placed on you.

Based on everything else said before this last bulletpoint, I think I established that. But it’s still so SO surprising even now how good things are going, so to anyone who is leaving high school for college in a weak state of mind, have faith in yourself. It worked for me and it will work for you.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
