Finals season has arrived, the weather is freezing cold, it is CONSTANTLY raining or snowing, and you have officially lost all of your motivation. I have many coping methods when I start getting stressed in a time like this, and I want to share them with all my wonderful internet readers. Look no further theatre people of the universe! In honor of a terribly stressful next two weeks, I have compiled my favorite coping method (listening to Broadway music) into a list of the most inspirational and motivational musical theatre songs to get you through a stressful time!
1. "I believe" from The Book of Mormon
The quintessential believe in yourself song is obviously this hilarious power ballad from the funniest musical on Broadway. I could listen to this non stop all day and never get bored of it.
2. "Here I Go" from If/ Then
Though this musical may be considered a “flop”, this song is quite the heart wrenching love song. It’s about going with your gut and taking risks for things you believe in. A must listen for everyone.
3. "Non-stop" from Hamilton
Need I say more? You could always just listen to the entire cast recording but honestly that’s a form of procrastination if you’re like me and plan on performing a one man show of the whole thing.
4. "I Can Do Better Than That" from The Last Five Years
Though not very well known for non theatre kids, The Last Five Years is packed with feel good inspiration songs, but this is for sure one of my favorites. I highly recommend the movie if you have spare time!
5. "One Perfect Moment" from Bring It On
This song is really close to my heart as I often listen to it anytime that I feel really stressed or overwhelmed with something. It reminds me to stick to what I know and follow the things I love, no matter how hard it is to achieve my dreams.
6. "Paciencia Y Fe" from In The Heights
How could you not love something sung from the inspirational power house that is Abuela Claudia?
7. "Santa Fe" from Newsies
This is EASILY my favorite pump up and inspiration song in the Broadway genre.
8. "Don’t Rain on My Parade" from Funny Girl
Clearly a classic but any list would be incomplete without it.
9. "Corner of the Sky" from Pippin
A beautiful portrait of finding your place in the world.
10. "I’m Here" from The Color Purple
Please lord can Cynthia Enviro sing this song every night before I go to sleep?
