Pop Punk Albums You Have To Listen To

My Top Ten Favorite Pop Punk Albums
MusicRadar

As I stated before, Pop Punk is the new thing in the Rock Genre, and for the past year, it's been taking over. While Pop Punk albums Fall Out Boy have turned to the Pop side, bands like Real Friends have been going full force on the Pop Punk side, and recently Pop Punk royally Sum 41 made a comeback album after playing the Vans Warped Tour this Summer. What I love about this genre is that you can shut the world out and play bands that will understand everything you're going through, and will give you a million reasons to stay alive. And they do it by music and lyrics of course.

"Around the World and Back" State Champs

I started listening to State Champs a year ago, and I can honestly say I am a fan of their music (another album is on the list btw). This album, in particular, got me into the band and after hearing "Secrets" multiple times I became so freaking obsessed with the song and the band. Just like all Pop Punk songs, the lyrics in the album hit very hard, especially the chorus of the title track "Sometimes I can't help but say, I'm falling in love and it's scaring me..." SO. FREAKING. RELATABLE. Just like every song on the album.

Favorite Tracks: Secrets, Eyes Closed, Losing Myself, Shape Up, Around the World and Back, Breaking Ground, History, Back and Fourth.

"Blink-182"Blink-182

Because you can't have a favorite Pop-Punk list without one of Pop Punk ROYALTY. You just CANT. Anyways, this album is personally my favorite album from Blink before their hiatus and before Matt Skiba joined the band (Also personally I'm a fan of the Blink pre-Matt but that's just me). As of this album, CLASSIC, "Feeling This" is the BEST way to start the album. What other ways to start an album besides TRAVIS PARKER DRUM SOLO?

EXACTLY.

As of favorites, I LOVE "Stockholm Syndrome", that's my absolute favorite because the lyrics hit so hard, as well as "I Miss You" (because again, CLASSIC). Blink never disappoints and their self-titled album was absolutely no exception.

Favorite Tracks: Stockholm, I Miss You, Always, Down, Feeling This

"No Closer to Heaven" The Wonder Years

I didn't start hearing The Wonder Years until this year, but after hearing this album, and hearing them live, I became so in love with the band. This album has the sounds of TSSF (on this list as well), and the lyrics of Real Friends (also on this list). My personal favorite is Thanks for the Ride and A Song for Patsy Cline, because what I love about this album and the genre is that you can escape anything and everything you're going through. Put on this album for the next half hour and just escape. And this album lets me escape EVERYTHING. So bless this album and The Wonder Years.

"The Finer Things" State Champs

After I heard ATWAB I heard The Finer Things and became obsessed right away. And of course the one thing that got me obsessed was Derek's voice (If Patrick Stump had a baby it would be him). Between this and ATWAB, this is the more Pop Punk album. You can definitely feel an old FOB vibe with this album. The opener, "Elevated," is my personal favorite because of the line "I'm finally acquiring the state of mind that everything is gonna be alright." And that's one of the many things that I've learned from this band, thanks to this album.

Favorite Tracks: Elevated, Deadly Conversation, Remedy, Easy Enough, Over the Line, Nothings Wrong, Prepared to be Noticed, Critical,

"Anywhere But Here"Mayday Parade

This was the very first album I heard from Mayday Parade in 2012, and I've been obsessed with this band ever since. I can honestly say this album is the soundtrack of my Summer 2012, and the reason I survived my senior year of high school. But as much as everyone is also obsessed with Mayday Parade, this album is so poorly underrated. While everyone gives credit to A Lesson in Romantics and their self-titled album, I also give credits to his lovely favorite because this is the first album I've heard from them. Speaking of which, this album goes back to classic Mayday Parade which is a combination of Pop Punk and Emo Rock (especially The Silence, my personal favorite). Whether you've been a fan since Black Lines or since Tales, this album is pure classic Emo and Pop Punk.

Favorite Tracks: The Silence, Save your Heart, Kids in Love, The End, Anywhere but Here, I Swear this Time I Mean It,

"Life's Not Out to Get You" Neck Deep

I didn't start listening to Neck Deep since this year, but even though I'm behind I will say this album is amazing, so incredibly sick. I have so much love for Neck Deep and the way they understand their fans and the way they tell us that life is not against us. Things might happen, but you will be fine. And based on this album, you will be fine. Speaking of which, this album has so many Blink influences that Mark Hoppus made many remixes to the songs on the album. The lyrics are so relatable, you will cry to December and mosh to Gold Steps and Kali Ma, and everything in between. I have friends that sell their life for this band and have told me nothing but "Listen to Neck Deep!" And I did, and have no regrets, because of this album.

Favorite Tracks: Lime ST, Gold Steps, Smooth Seas, Serpents, December (and December again), Thread Level Midnight, Can't Kick Up the Roots, Kali Ma

"Maybe This Place Is The Same...and We're Just Changing" Real Friends

I Didn't start listening to Real Friends till 2014, thanks to their EPs. But I didn't hear their first full length until last year. Long story short I was going thorough a lot and I was listening to this band like it was THE BIBLE (which is how I always listen to music, tbh). As of the album: SUPER. FREAKING. RELATABLE. The first song on the album, I Don't Love You Anymore, about how to get over a relationship, so freaking relatable song that you're able to scream and cry to (kinda what Real Friends is known for, sad Pop Punk songs). A very personal favorite of mine is sixteen because the lyrics are talking about life, reflecting about finding yourself and everything in between. One of the many reasons I love Real Friends is because when they say they understand, they really understand, and that's an amazing feeling.

Favorite Tracks: Sixteen, Loose Ends, Spread Me all over Illinois, I Don't Love You Anymore, Summer, Short Song.

"From Under the Cork Tree"Fall Out Boy

Again, you can have a Pop Punk list without Pop Punk royalty, including Fall Out Boy. And although this isn't the first album from FOB, this is the first album I heard from them (didn't hear TTTYG until the summer freshman year of college). Back to this album, so many favorite Pop-Punk hits, and so many favorites as well. I give so many props to Pete Wentz for writing the lyrics to these songs because they are so relatable, the music is catchy (props to Patrick Stump, one of many vocal gods of the Pop Punk genre). Everything in this album screams out inspirational and screams out Pop Punk CLASSIC.

Favorite Tracks: Dance, Dance; Sugar We're goin' Down, 7 Minutes in Heaven, I've Got a Dark Alley, Sophmore Slump, Champagne are for Real Friends, I Slept with Someone from FOB, A Little Sixteen Candles,

"The Story so Far" The Story so Far

Just like almost all the bands on the list, I didn't start listening to The Story so Far till recently, but after hearing all 3 albums, this is personally my favorite. You can still hear the classic Pop Punk roots from the circa the 2000s, in fact, they made a 2000s style music video for their song Heavy Gloom. I love how the album is hardcore for a Pop Punk album, and how you can tell they don't care about what people say, and the amount of mosh pits that go off in the albums goes to show how hardcore this album is.

Favorite Tracks: Nerve, How You Are, Heavy Gloom, Smile, Solo, Mock.

"The Home Inside my Head" - Real Friends

I can honestly say this album consists of songs that will forever be my favorite songs for the rest of my life. These songs honestly are honestly the story of what I've gone through the past year till now, and that's why I love this album. It shows from top to bottom how a person goes from broken to feeling okay and bittersweet about what happened to them. And I honestly feel like everyone has had that moment when they go through something and it's happening right in front of them, and they don't know what to do. Fast forward to when they fully recovered, everything is finally over and done, and they had the opportunity to reflect on the past year and if they fully recovered, and if they are okay. Also, the lyrics of the album talks a lot about opening up to people, and the fear of opening up to people due to the past events that happen. And that's definitely something I can relate to 1000%, especially the lyrics "The home inside my head has a bed for me that no one will ever get the chance to see." It basically means that what goes on in my head is something no one will ever know but me. And it's lyrics like that are the reason why I love this band and the reason why I love this album.

So there you have it, my top 10 favorite Pop-Punk albums. As I stated before, what I love about Pop Punk and any kind of music, is that you can put on the album and shut out the world that's full of people who don't understand, and listen to bands who do understand, and we'll tell you through music and lyrics that it will so get better. So if you need a reason to stay alive and survive, I gave you 10.

You're welcome.

Epic Creation Myths: Norse Origins Unveiled

What happened in the beginning, and how the heavens were set in motion.

The Norse Creation Myth

Now, I have the everlasting joy of explaining the Norse creation myth. To be honest, it can be a bit kooky, so talking about it is always fun. The entire cosmos is included in this creation myth, not just the earth but the sun and the moon as well. This will be a short retelling, a summary of the creation myth, somewhat like I did with Hermod's ride to Hel.

We all scroll through the radio stations in the car every once in a while, whether its because we lost signal to our favorite one or we are just bored with the same ol' songs every day. If you're like me and LOVE some good throwback music, here's a list of songs from every genre that have gotten lost in time, but never truly forgotten.

beer on the beach

Summer is hot and humid, and it's almost like summer was made specifically to drink the refreshing, cold, crisp wonderful, delicious, nutritious nectar of the gods. Which is none other than beer; wonderful cold beer. With summer playing peek-a-boo around the corner while we finish up this semester, it's time to discuss the only important part of summer.
