Things that drive all readers crazy

My Top Ten Bookish Pet Peeves

We all have our own pet peeves. For example, like hearing someone chews something because apparently, they can't keep their mouth shut, or someone who doesn't cover their mouth when they sneeze/cough. You can't help but cringe and give them a nasty look and silently walk away from them.

I personally have a considerable amount of pet peeves. Some of them are book related and I'm gonna share them with you right here, right now.

1. Folded Corners

Okay, some of you may not have a problem with this but I can't stand it when I see someone folded their book's pages. Every time I see this, I feel like that person is harming their book and it makes me sad. I'd rather use anything around me to mark a book that I'm reading if I didn't bring a bookmark with me. And by anything, I mean anything that might not harm the book like bills, leaves, or tissues. I like my books to be loved, simple as that.

2. Cracked Spine

You might accidentally do this to your book when you're reading them. Especially if it's a small paperback edition. Large paperbacks are usually floppy so the spine doesn't get cracked easily. Whereas with smaller paperbacks like UK edition or market mass paperbacks tend to get their spines cracked without trouble. This thing happens because the books are usually thick and when you read them, you bend the book to see the words that are close to the binding. That's when the spines cracked and when you realized what you've done to your book, you silently curse yourself for not taking care of it more (for me, at least).

3. Yellow Pages

You will turn all of your book's pages to yellow if you don't clean your bookshelves regularly. I hate it when my books turn yellow, I feel like I don't take care of them enough. Which is a shame because I spend a lot of money buying books so yeah, clean your bookshelves regularly and don't put your books carelessly.

4. Movie Covers

Ha. I hate movie covers. Like seriously, I cringe every time I see a book with their movie covers. Okay, I get it, it's for the publicity and all. But you don't have to do it every single time, okay?:) Especially when the movie covers are worse than the originals (which is usually what happened).

5. People Borrowing My Books and Returned Them In a Bad Condition

I mean, seriously? You'd do that to me? If someone did do this to me then they don't know how much I care about my books and that being said, they probably don't know me really well. And therefore I shouldn't be friends with you. Okay not really, but yes I should think about what our relationship might be in the future if you mess with my books. With that being said, I don't really lend books to people anymore. I only lend them to my closest friends or my sisters because they know I would smack them if they ruined my books. I even have a friend that likes to borrow books with me, and I to her, but before we exchanged our books we would wrap them in a plastic wrapping for books just to keep them safe. And when we got out books back, we would remove the plastic wrapper. That's how much we care about our books. Such a beautiful friendship to me.

6. Stain on My Books

I am super careful when I'm eating around a book I'm reading. The chances are 1:50. So if this happens then probably someone borrowed my book.

7. Talking to Me When I'm Reading

First of all, one of my main reason why I like reading so much is that I can escape this world I'm living on. So if you talk to me, it means that your voice will make me remember that I don't really live in Hogwarts or Camp Half Blood or Ravka or Prythian (if you know all of these places, then 100 points for you!) so yeah, I'm not a fan of that. I don't read when my friends and I get together and I don't read when there are people I love to have a conversation with is around. So please, your "Hey what are you reading?" annoys me, let alone wanting to have a full conversation with me. Maybe I should order a mug that says "Go Away I'm Reading" so I can casually sip my drink every time I see someone is approaching me.

8. Floppy Paperback Covers

What I meant by that is whe after you read a paperback and then the cover doesn't really lie flat anymore. So part of it just hang out in the air, which makes it difficult to take a flatlay photo:)

9. Cover Change Halfway Through The Series

This one is really annoying because you can't do anything about it. The publisher made a decision to change the cover of the next book in a series even though the series haven't finished yet. And there you are, stuck with a series with different cover theme.

10. Buying Un-matching Edition

It's easy to avoid this problem if the series have different covers for different editions. But you have to be careful when a series have different edition like UK and US edition with very similar cover. The thing is, the height of a book in UK edition is different from the US so you can pretty much make this mistake, especially if you buy it online. We don't want that to happen, right? Every time you go online and searching for a book in a series that you want to buy, ALWAYS look at the ISBN. Match it with the other book in the series you have now, don't forget to check the dimension as well as the publisher. If they match then it should be good!

So those are my top ten biggest pet peeves! Do you have one? Comment down below;)

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
