For the past three months I have roomed with a Minnesotan, and I have to say that it's been mildly life changing. She's proved the "Minnesota Nice" stereotype right and left me wondering just how passionate someone can be about a state. If you've been privileged enough to befriend a Minnesotan, you can probably recognize a couple of these behaviors.
You quickly learn that the Minnesotan accent is so real.
And so do they! They don't notice their accent until they leave Minnesota and have people point it out (even though they have painfully pronounced "bag" like "behg" their entire lives.)
When people find out they're from Minnesota, they always get asked the same question: How's the Mall of America?
And they always give the same answer: They're used to it, and to them, it's not that big of a deal! It's their normal shopping mall!
Southerners may treasure football, but there's nothing quite like a Minnesotan's love for hockey.
You've learned that "The Tourney" was the biggest event of the year in high school.
While everyone around you is freaking out about the winter, they are as calm as can be.
No one knows how to handle below freezing like a Minnesotan; it's all they've ever known.
There's no one more proud of Minnesotan than themselves.
They'll be the first to tell you that Minnesota has more shoreline than California, Hawaii, and Florida combined, everything you've ever wanted to know about Minneapolis, and that they wouldn't trade their home for anything in the world.
