It took me a while to find friends that I feel truly blessed to have. I have known some of my best friends for years. It's the best feeling to find those girlfriends that come into your life and you both instantly click! Here are my top five signs that reveal you've found your besties for life.

1. You go out of your way to make each other look good.

When you're with your girlfriends you know there won't be a chance of spinach in your teeth, hair misplaced, or a terrible photo posted that is not Instagram worthy. Your best friends are a reflection of you and if you hold yourself to certain standards, you can help them meet theirs.

2. You have each other's backs.

No one can talk dirty about your girlfriends to you and they know it. If you have a problem with someone then act like an adult and confront your issues with them, we're not each other's middlemen and we don't plan on risking our friendships for an issue that's not even ours.

3. You support each other.

If you've known each other since you were little, then chances are you've been through jealousy even with your closest friend. But when you're in college you start to learn about transitioning from childhood to adult friendships and that being jealous is better replaced by a healthy support system.

When one of you has goals or is achieving something, you go out of your way to express how happy you are for them and cheer them on every step of the way. One way that I've been going out of my way to support my closest friends is by sending them an inspirational quote to them every day. As of right now, it's only been a week that I've been doing this but I realized how impactful it has been to my friendships, and to be honest, I'd completely recommend it.

4. You're respectfully honest.

Too many people use honesty as an excuse to be rude, but that's just another way of being mean. Telling your friends the truth should come from a place of respect. Sometimes your best friends are going to screw up and it's okay to let them know that they did. But you're going to make mistakes too, so it's better to help them fix their situations than keep them from living their best life.

5. Distance doesn't phase you.

I live in New York. I have one best friend in Italy, one in Ukraine, and one that lives in Virginia. While sometimes we have periods of not talking to each other as much, it doesn't ever change the fact that we still love each other, we're there for each other, and when we're together it's as if no time has passed at all.

What is most important though, out of everything, is that at your core you're the same people. You share similar values and respect your differences. Those friendships are the ones that are almost guaranteed to last forever.

So mark National Best Friends Day (June 8), National Friends Day (August 5), and National Sisters Day (August 5, but it rotates by year) in your calendars, ladies. And send your best friends a reminder you love them.

April Ludgate
NBC Universal

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
