I have lived in New York my whole life, given as a New Yorker, you're often out and about looking for a new adventure, today I am going to show you the best places to visit in New York if you find yourself in the area! (not in order.)
Central Park
Central Park West Skyline in Autumnnycgo.com
This is probably my favorite part. Central park is home to many iconic landscapes while being an iconic landscape. The fountain where Gossip Girl, Home Alone and many more movies were shot at, the Belvedere Castle, The Zoo.. and so much more. Not to also mention that the park itself is huge and easy to get lost at, so if you need a day to just explore, go to Central Park, I guarantee you will not be able to finish it in one day.
Times Square

Yea yea I know Times Square is a huge attraction to many tourists that sometimes you get a bit intimidated trying to navigate yourself around but I suggest to go at night for the best experience, a night where it's not too hot or cold. When the sun sets and all the lights turn on.... you will see why New York City is the best city in the world. If you are not into being out at night, you can certainly always go in the morning/afternoon to shop, catch a meal, a movie or just play in the highly known arcade, Dave & Busters, but good luck with being swarmed by tourists.
Soho

Soho is a very very interesting place in New York City, the usual skyscrapers are not there, the stores are similar to the buildings. They have a lot of high end stores but also many affordable clothing. If you wanna visit a unique place in the city with loud traffic, there it is!
Brooklyn Bridge Paek

The Brooklyn Bridge Park is not only an amazing park but also where amazing events happen. There are so many things to do, walk the BK bridge (iconic), visit Dumbo & the place where Gossip Girl was shot, and also watch a movie with your friends/family/pets, plus an amazing view of the Manhattan skyline, what more could you want!
