The NFL season only has 11 weeks left; seven for teams that don't make the playoffs. No football fan wants this to happen, but it will. Despite that, the end of the season brings us a Superbowl Champion, a ROY, and also an MVP. Real football fans hope that this will be their team's year and that they'll win the Superbowl, but most fans also hope that their favorite player becomes MVP. With seven weeks left to decide who the NFL MVP will be here are the candidates who stand out currently and have the top chance of winning this prestigious award.
Alvin Kamara
Alvin Kamara is officially the lead back of the New Orleans Saints. He still has to split carries with Ingram, but regardless Kamara is the lead back now. He is a mismatch on any defense; no one seems to be able to tackle him and he's straight up a touchdown machine. Since Kamara has entered the Saints team, he has made them unstoppable and while he may not be the best MVP candidate on the Saints, he is still worthy of being top 5 especially being the second best running back in the league.
Cam Newton
As a Saints fan, I absolutely despise Cam Newton, but it's impossible to deny the impact Newton has had on the Panthers. It's almost as Cam is performing like his 2015 MVP form and he's trying to win the award again. Having a 5-3 record on its own is very impressive, but considering Cam has no real weapons outside McCaffrey, it's even more impressive. Cam is leading the league in rushing from a non-running back and still has over 1500 yards passing. With the putrid offensive line and Cam making plays on his own, he is more than deserving to have his name in the MVP conversation.
Todd Gurley
Being from Georgia, I've seen Todd Gurley play since his college days. All of us from Georgia knew that Todd Gurley would make a large impact in the NFL, but none of us knew he would turn around the whole franchise of the Rams. Gurley's the leading rusher and he seems to have a knack for the end-zone. I know this is an unpopular opinion, but Jared Goff is not good; Todd Gurley makes him good. Rarely do you see a running back make a quarterback good, but Todd Gurley is that great! Any other year Gurley would easily win MVP, but with so many players playing exceptionally this year, Todd Gurley is only 3rd on this list.
Patrick MahomesÂ
Patrick Mahomes has been lights out this year. No one and when I mean no one, I mean his coach, his teammates, and even his peers did not expect him to be this good. Patrick Mahomes has an arm that drops balls in the perfect spot. He is the leading passer in the league and has also thrown the most touchdowns this year. He has led the league to a 9-1 record (the best in the league) and is constantly winning games for the Chiefs despite their horrible defense. Without Mahomes, the Chiefs would be nowhere as close to the record they have now. Easily Patrick Mahomes could win MVP, but currently, there's only one player better.
Drew Brees
Is this the year? Is this the year Drew Brees finally wins the MVP award he's deserved multiple times. It better be or all of Who Dat Nation is going to be mad! Drew Brees isn't out-throwing anyone, but that's not what this award is about. This award is called the Most Valuable Player and without Drew Brees, the Saints would be nowhere to as good as they are currently without him. Drew Brees leads NFL HISTORY in passing yards, passing completion percentage, and is second in most touchdowns passed. Drew Brees broke most of these records this year and he might be helping the Saints go to another Superbowl. Drew Brees might not care about the MVP award and would much rather win the Superbowl, but his teammates want him to get both and hopefully, he does because as the best QB of all time, he deserves it.
