2017 is looking to be a promising year for entertainment because it is looking to smack us with a handful of emotions. 2017's movies look bigger and better than last years. Many television series are releasing this year, such as "The Defenders" and season two of "Stranger Things," which I'm sure everyone is excited for. Video games are also making a big splash with many great titles releasing this spring a majority of them being released during the holidays. Many of us are excited for E3 where they will debut new games and announce many new game titles that will make us eager to play. Without further ado, here are my top five most anticipated games for this year.
5. For Honor
"For Honor" is looking to be a very promising game. The warrior mashup of knights, vikings and samurai change the way you see these warriors. Playing different types of warriors and different game modes keeps the game fresh and exciting. "For Honor" is a Ubisoft game which may make some people worried about the game at launch. The game has a similar setup to "Rainbow Six Siege" where each faction has a named character with a preset weapons and abilities. "For Honor" adds a fresh new combat system not seen before that really makes the game stand out from the rest. "For Honor" is set on release on February 14.
4. Mass Effect Andromeda
Being a science fiction nerd, it surprises people when I tell them that I have never played a "Mass Effect" game. I have always wanted to play this series and I am very excited for the next installment that will allow me to start fresh with a new story. I personally still want to go back and play the older games that were a huge success. "Andromeda" keeps the original feel as a third-person action adventure role-playing game that the old games solely possessed. This new installment will take place 600 years after the events of the first three games and in a new system making for a great adventure. "Mass Effect Andromeda" releases on March 21.
3. Prey
Ever since "Prey 2" was cancelled, many people wanted to get their hands on the alien bounty hunting game that looked fantastic at E3. "Prey 2" was cancelled in 2014 after going through development hell. The game had a cinematic trailer and even some gameplay trailers before the cancellation announcement. Just last year at E3, it was announced that "Prey" is being revamped and rebooted. "Prey" takes place on a space station infested with aliens. You play as the character Morgan Yu who will have to make decisions on the station that will ultimately change parts of the story. Arkane Studios is developing the game while Bethesda is producing it. "Prey" hits the shelves on May 5.
2. Star Wars Battlefront 2
Ever since Disney bought Star Wars in 2012, they have been pumping life into the franchise with movies, books, shows and games. The rebooted series "Star Wars Battlefront" released in November 2016. The reception of the game was not good. EA, the game's producer, removed a lot of elements the first two original games had such as a single player and a class system. A majority of content that this game had was given through downloadable content which EA is notoriously bad about. This year, the sequel to the reboot is set to release with many requested traits. EA has already confirmed that the game will have a single player which already makes this game better than the first. In the first reboot, the game only took place during the original trilogy which is one reason the game had a lack in content. There are many rumors that the sequel will have more time periods which will expand the game making it better than the first. "Star Wars Battlefront 2" will be revealed at E3 this year and will release around the holidays.
1. Outlast 2
Ever since Red Barrel Studios brought us the "Outlast," we have been craving more of its terrifying setting and gameplay. "Outlast 2" was announced last year and was set to release in the fall of last year, but the studio felt it was best to delay the game so they could get the game just the way they wanted. The "Outlast 2" demo has been released for some time now. The demo throws you into a terrifying setting of dark cornfields and crazed people. It gives the player a great taste of what the first game had as well as a few new elements that the studio is planning to bring. "Outlast 2" doesn't have a release date yet, but is set to release some time this year.
