Disney Channel’s Original Movie, High School Musical, made its television debut on January 20th, 2006. Becoming one of the most popular films to ever be released by Disney Channel, the films Director, Kenny Ortega, was quick to release and add two more films to make the series a trilogy: High School Musical 2 and High School Musical 3: Senior Year.
Despite creating quite an unrealistic story line, because let's face it, no one starts singing and break-dancing during lunchtime in the cafeteria, there is no denying that all the songs across the three films have some of the catchiest lyrics to ever exist… However, that only makes the task of choosing favorites just THAT much more difficult.
Nonetheless, here are my Top Seven High School Musical Songs.
7. We're All In This Together:
There isn’t much to say about this song except the fact that it is ICONIC. It was so great seeing people of all sorts getting together to celebrate the win of East High’s Basketball Team. It truly proves that “once a wildcat, always a wildcat.”
6. Bet On It:
Remember when Troy caught Gabriella and Ryan spending some time together and then got quite upset even though HE, to a certain extent, kept breaking promises to HER? Yeah, as do I. However, 'twas about time Troy put his love for music to good use, though! After all, one of the best factors about music is that it gives you the opportunity to express your feelings.
5. Scream:
This is one of my favorite scenes in High School Musical 3: Senior Year simply because it seemed like this was Troy’s breaking point. Troy’s life changed when Gabriella entered it and when she (SPOILER ALERT) leaves for a time being, his life changes again. However, instead of turning to what most would expect him to turn to - basketball - he turns to music and it is definitely something special. Besides, who wouldn’t want to walk through the dark halls of their school when no one is there?
4. Can I Have This Dance:
This is THE song that every elementary and middle school “couple” wanted to dance to at their school dances. I mean, who can blame them? It is such a beautifully written song, with lyrics that speak to anyone that is in love. However, I totally wouldn’t recommend sneaking to a school rooftop and dancing to it. It just doesn’t sound (or look) too safe.
3.Gotta Go My Own Way:
*Cue Tears* .. After promising Gabriella a summer full of fun, and giving her a necklace with the letter “T” on it, Troy was offered multiple opportunities which he simply couldn’t say no to, causing him to not only ruin his friendship with his fellow teammates, but with his girlfriend, too. After multiple broken promises, it all becomes a bit too much for Gabriella. This is perhaps one of the saddest songs out of all of the three High School Musical films. Inner eight-year-old me is still, to this day, crying.
2. Stick To The Status Quo:
I don’t know about you, but part of the reason as to why I absolutely enjoy this song is because it simply makes you want to get up and dance. Now, of course, I won’t be break-dancing in the middle of the cafeteria, but you can definitely catch me dancing to it at any (and every) party that it is played at (because it should be played at every party - just sayin’).
1. Start of Something New:
Face It.. There wouldn’t be a High School Musical Trilogy if it weren’t for the song that, quite literally, started something new. Therefore, to have this on a High School Musical Song List is an absolute must. Besides, this is also the first moment that Troy and Gabriella meet, as well as the first of many songs that the two ended up singing together. It is, as a result, definitely a special one - not only for the two singers in it, but for all High School Musical lovers as well.

So... High School Musical Marathon anyone?
