Recently more than ever, I’ve been seeing food collaborations that make me wonder why people hadn’t thought of these delicacies earlier. What took humanity this long to combine two simple foods to create one hell of a meal?
Though there are probably dozens of other food mashups out there, here are the top five hybrids that are worth a shoutout, according to my very own taste buds:
Kimchi tacosForget the traditional Mexican inspired filings and replace it with Korean beef BBQ and kimchi, a spicy fermented cabbage that’ll give some real flavor to your tortilla.
Where to find this: Kimchi Taco Truck in Brooklyn. Find their weekly schedule here.
Bacon pancakesYour two favorite breakfast foods now incorporated as one. Convenience at its finest.
Where to find this: No need to venture out! All you really need is some instant pancake mix and a pack of bacon. Find the recipe here.
Ramen Burrito (Ramenrrito)
This bipolar burrito merges ramen noodles with Mexican food — and the result is like a bowl of Asian noodle soup minus the broth and it's easy to hold.
Where to find this:Press Tea in West Village, NYC.
Donut Grilled CheeseWho needs white bread for their grilled cheese when you can have instead an inside-out donut placed on the grill with your choice of cheese, warmed to perfection?
Where to find this: The closest one to me personally is TomAndCheein North Freehold, NJ but you can find other locations nationwide listed on their website.
PhumplingsAnd last but not least, these dumplings attempt to crossbreed xiao long bao with a Vietnamese soup. Inside the dumpling, you’ll find pho broth, which incorporates beef and chicken stocks and flavorful herbal additions.
Where to find this: Phumpling Co. in Shwick, Bushwick's new market in NYC.
