I'm like every other normal human on this planet - I love food. If it were a reasonably accepted profession to travel to new places trying out the best dishes, I would be game for sure. So, on that note, you bet your ass that I have made a valued effort to travel to and fro my many hometowns in search of the most hella dining places available. In Lincoln, I can easily say that it was very hard to narrow my top five favorite dining places down, but it happened and now I can share with you the absolute best places to eat. If you like a wide variety of foods, then you're reading the right article.

1. Misty's

A childhood favorite of mine, Misty's is well known for very delectable steaks and seasoning. My mom and I never, EVER cook half of our meats without using Misty's seasoning. My favorite appetizer is their calamari, which, rather than being in small and thin rings, is served in thick, long strips.

They're also not fishy tasting, which some calamari tends to be. Then, of course, their steaks are a must have because they straight up cut like butter and are insanely tender. I get mine served rare or medium rare, because I like my steak still mooing. If you're more of a soup person, though, try their crab bisque. It's very flavorful and again - not fishy tasting like it could be if made incorrectly.

This place isn't cheap, but it's definitely worth the drive to and from Lincoln regardless of where you're from. Besides the food, the scenery inside is old fashioned and very mellow with dim lights, and if you catch them in the right season, their lovely Husker marching band likes to walk through and get you into the football mood.

2. Buzzard Billy's

Buzzard Billy's is also a childhood fave of mine. Known for their alligator dishes and “armadillo eggs", this interesting little place located in the downtown haymarket area surely has some unique and amazing dishes that are must-haves. To start, I usually begin with armadillo eggs (which aren't actually armadillo eggs, but chicken), order alligator fingers (the sauce is to die for), and end my meal with bread pudding which, if I remember right, is served hot and SERIOUSLY AMAZING. It's a quick-serving little dine in with a country atmosphere.

3. Ivanna Cone

If you're an ice cream person like I am, you'll love this place. Every local knows of it and it's a neat little shop also located in the downtown haymarket. Right next door outside is a beautiful and nicely lit alley that you can walk down (and some people don't know this but at the right hours you can order from a window by walking up). Inside is a fun and child-like atmosphere where the servers are beyond friendly and the ice cream is never the same. My favorite was a chocolate blueberry-lemon mix, personally, but every kind of ice cream there is thick and awesome.

4. Fuzzy's Taco Shop

Mexican food is great and we all know that. Fuzzy's is a little more pricey than more Mexican restaurants I've been to, but you definitely get what you pay for here. Their enchiladas and queso are beyond worth dying for, and the atmosphere is friendly and not ever too busy. Merch is popular there, too, so anyone that is into that sort of stuff is typically happy when they find this out. There is also a neat little bar area located in the back around the corner. Again, if you're into Mexican food, prepare yourself for this place.

5. Tokyo

Not many people know about this place, but if you're into sushi, this is a MUST TRY. I am a big time sushi girl, and I have had sushi from literally all around the world. NOTHING compares to Tokyo, which is located on 27th just off Cornhusker highway. The inside is beautiful and scenic and the people that work there are always insanely friendly. In fact, the people that work there make masterpieces for a living and can even make your sushi into a fire-breathing dragon. I used to come here every weekend, so often, in fact, that they named a sushi roll after me and made it for me every time I came in. There is no missing out at this place. It is by far, absolutely my favorite on this list.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
