In the south, especially in Charleston, two things are inseparable: people and their dogs. Being in a beautiful city, all that you truly need is the sunshine, your pup and some good eats. People love having the companionship of their friends but also their dogs. There is something about going out and not feeling guilty about leaving man’s best friend at home all alone. So grab your doggie, the leash and a water bowl, and go check out one of these fabulous dog friendly restaurants in Charleston, South Carolina.

Bone appétit!

Fuel Cantina

Having a ruff day? Take a little trip to Fuel Island. This former gas station is a great site to pretend you’re on vacation, and to sit back and relax with your furry friend. They have both an indoor and outdoor bar, and one of the largest lighted back patios in Charleston. It is a Caribbean-influenced cuisine with a wide variety of food, from an out-of-this-world braised pork taco to a succulent sautéed shrimp salad. Sip on a painkiller and enjoy the palm trees -- after all, you’re in “da Caribbean, mon.”

Poogan's Porch

Not too long ago, another dog was sitting on the porch, and his name was Poogan. The restored Victorian home had named their restaurant after the name of the pooch that the previous owners had left behind. This charming Southern restaurant believes in conversations on porches, old Southern dogs, biscuits and sweet tea. And boy, after leaving this restaurant, these values will become engraved into you as well. With 28 wines offered by the glass, the crab soup and the best pimento grilled cheese in town, you and your tail-wagger will never want to leave.

Dog and Duck

If you’re looking for a spot to get your paws dirty where you can bring your whole family, and get great food for an even better price, this is your place. This locally-owned pub is great any day of the week. With live music, name that tune trivia and regular trivia, you will always be entertained. The staff is beyond accommodating and could recommend more munchies than you could ever imagine. The wide variety of wings, sandwiches, wraps, burgers, tacos, soups and salads (what don’t they have?) will have everyone leaving satisfied.

Poe’s Tavern

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary… I found myself eating the juiciest half-pound burger I’ve ever had. The quaint restaurant helps Poe’s legacy in Charleston live on. Located on Sullivan’s Island, it is the optimal realm to eat a burger or some mahi tacos on their porch and then stroll over to the beach with your pup. With great food and beer, you are guaranteed a pawsitively awesome experience!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
