For a lot of people, summer includes hanging out outside, spending time with friends and family and of course, catching up on TV shows. For me, this means endless marathons of crime TV shows, with everything from the classics (I'm writing this article while watching "Law & Order") to the creepy ("Criminal Minds," anyone?). I figure this makes me kind of a crime show expert, so for all those who are interested, here's a list of crime shows from worst to best that can help you determine what to watch this summer:
12. "White Collar"
This USA series follows a white collar con man (hence the name) who teams up with an FBI agent to solve crime. While the first couple of seasons were excellent, it declined dramatically by around season three.
11. "Rizzoli & Isles"
Jane Rizzoli is a detective for the Boston Police Department who works with her best friend, Maura Isles, the ME, to solve murder cases. Much like "White Collar," the first couple seasons are good, but the show gets very cheesy by around season three.
10. "The Mentalist"
Patrick Jane is a psychic who works for the FBI in California. While each episode focuses on individual cases, the main goal is to find Red John, the serial killer who murdered Jane's family. That takes five whole seasons, so the show gets boring really fast. It also copies the USA show "Psych," which makes fun of "The Mentalist" in many of its episodes, with its use of psychic detectives.
9. "Bones"
Forensic anthropologist, Temperance Brennan ("Bones") works with FBI agent Seely Booth ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer's" David Boreanz) to solve murder cases using — you guessed it — bones. The show, much like many of the others, declines around season five.
8. "iZombie"
Rob Thomas, who directed the TV hit "Veronica Mars," returned with "iZombie," which focuses on Liv Moore, a doctor turned zombie who eats brains to solve murder cases. The show is a perfect mix of weirdness and humor, and that, along with the overarching plot of trying to find a cure for "zombieism" makes it more intriguing than a lot of the crime shows out there.
7. "Veronica Mars"
It's so sad how few people have watched "Veronica Mars." This amazing early 2000s TV show stars Kristen Bell as teenage detective, Veronica Mars, who solves individual cases for her fellow high schoolers in a rich California town while looking for the murderer of her best friend.
6. "Monk"
This classic USA TV show focuses on OCD detective Adrian Monk, who tries to find his wife's killer while working as a consultant for the San Francisco PD.
5. "Motive"
This Canadian TV show twists the classic crime plot around. Each episode starts with a murder scene, so viewers know the killer and the victim, but have to discover the motive (hence the name).
4. "Person of Interest"
Harold Finch (Michael Emerson) is a genius who builds a machine that sends him the social security numbers of people who are soon to be involved in a crime (although he doesn't know if they're a victim or perpetrator). He recruits ex-CIA agent John Reese to help him protect those involved, but they soon find that the Machine has plans of it's own...
3. "Law & Order"
It's "Law & Order," the crime TV Show of all crime TV shows. If you haven't watched it, start now.
2. "Criminal Minds"
This show — probably the scariest crime show I've seen — follows the Behavioral Analysis Unit in the FBI that profiles serial killers in order to find them. It has amazing characters and teaches viewers about real serial killers as well.
1. "Psych"
The best crime shows are those that can be serious when necessary but also manage to incorporate humor, which is why "Psych" is the best show out of all on this list. "Psychic" detective Shawn Spencer works with his best friend, Burton Guster, to solve cases for the Santa Barbara Police Department, and the series is amazing from the first episode to the last.
