Top Beauty Tips That Will Actually Benefit You

We see advertisements everywhere of products that "actually work" for hair, skin, nails, smile, etc. However.. how do we know what actually does and doesn't? Is there a better, cheaper method to doing so? Sometimes natural remedies are the best option when it comes having healthy hair and skin. Here are a few tips and products that will benefit you when it comes to beautifying!

Coconut Oil.

Wow, if you haven't heard all of the benefits of this stuff you're missing out! Coconut oil is one of the few foods that can be classified as a “superfood." It has an extremely positive effect on health with its unique combination of fatty acids. This includes fat loss, better brain function and various other amazing benefits. It is proven that people who eat this stuff are some of the healthiest in the world. However, if you don't want to eat it.. what can you do with it?

Many people use it as a hot oil treatment for their hair or skin. Trust me.. this stuff does wonders! "Oil pulling" is also a great method when it comes to detoxifying the body. It's definitely a weird concept, but oil pulling can also be the secret to a whiter smile.

Activated Charcoal naturally whitens teeth.

Who knew, right? Activated Charcoal (in which you can buy at a drug store) is an ingredient that is present in many teeth whitening products. It's a cheap and effective way to having bright pearly whites.

Conditioning Treatments.

I swear by this! Palmer's coconut oil formula is something that is super cheap that I usually purchase at target. If I leave it on damp hair over night and wash it out in the morning my hair is usually soft and light. If you're one to use a lot of heat products on your hair.. don't forget to quench your dry and damaged hair every once in awhile! I try to use this stuff once every two weeks.

Go easy on heat products.

Deep conditioning treatments can only do so much.. and thermal spray that protects it can only do so much as well. I've cut back on blow drying my hair every time I shower and that alone has helped A TON. Find a cute hairstyle that works for you that doesn't require the use of a flat, curling iron or crimper. Trust me your hair will thank you for it!

It is OK to self tan.. but be smart about it!

Alright, so I understand that self tanner or a "fake tan" doesn't have the best reputation. Its ok to cheat!!! In fact, you'll be the one without all of the wrinkles by age 50. But please, for the love of Goodness, don't be the person with orange palms or streaks all over their body. Be careful about it and test out a small dot around your waistline and leave it overnight to make sure its your desired color. Also, wear gloves or use an applicator mitt! Apply lotion around ankles or any extremely dry areas. I highly recommend St Tropez.

..or if you want to be cheap about it.. Victoria's secret self tanning lotion is pretty trustworthy.

Biotin and Folic Acid.

Both of these you can buy in pill form at drugstores, and you should take them every day to help with hair/nails/skin growth and improvement.

Keep makeup minimal.

Make sure there is a difference between your every day look and your evening look. There's nothing more flattering than a clean fresh face!

Dry shampoo is your best friend.

By no means do you have to wash your hair every day.. thats not healthy! Find a dry shampoo that works for you and smells nice.

Always take off your makeup and moisturize.

I am very guilty of neglecting this.. It is SO unhealthy for your skin to leave your makeup on all night, especially if you're like me and apply a layer of foundation over it the next morning (LOL ew). Your skin will thank you if you choose to remove your makeup and add moisturizer every night before bed.

Full Brows are beautiful!

Please please please don't wax and pluck your eyebrows to the point where they are very thin. It doesn't look flattering! The thicker the eyebrows the bigger and brighter your eyes look. Pluck any stray hairs and get them waxed/threaded if you must.. but don't alter the shape.

Drink a lot of water.

Try your best to stay hydrated and keep a water bottle near you at all times! This will help when fighting acne or just health in general.

Use Vaseline and Aquaphor.

There are so many benefits to vaseline and Aquaphor.. this is key when it comes to having soft lips and skin! It also helps grow eyelashes thick and long.

Sidenote: if you have trouble with bloody noses.. either of these will clog the walls and stop the bloody nose immediately.

Be gentle when fighting tangles.

It is so bad to rip a hairbrush through your tangled hair after the shower starting from root to ends. SO DAMAGING! Be gentle and try to comb through starting with the ends first. The less tension the less damaging.

Purchase a nail kit.

What's worse than this? Enough said.

Dry Brushing.

Dry skin brushing is an inexpensive way to improve your skin's look and feel, as well as remove cellulite and improve immune function. Try it out!

Eat Healthy Foods yogurt, avocado, berries, nuts, broccoli, etc.

This is obviously something you should be doing anyways BUT it also helps when it comes to beauty. These foods will help out with flawless glowing skin.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
