South Carolina is known for its southern charm, history and beaches! As summer settles in to stay, it's time to hit up the shore to work on your tan and put your feet in the sand. Can't decide which beach to run to first? No worries. The top beaches (in no particular order) are waiting for you.
1. Myrtle Beach
Commonly referred to as "Dirty Myrtle," is not necessarily the best beach for swimming but it is great in terms of attractions. Myrtle has gorgeous hotels, hundreds of restaurants and plenty of fun parks. This is a great beach for a family vacation.
2. Hilton Head
With over 12 miles of peaceful beach, Hilton Head is the perfect place to go for a relaxing vacation. The coast boasts beautiful dunes, busy nightlife and spacious golf courses.
3. Kiawah Island
Just 25 minutes from Downtown Charleston, you can't go wrong with this stunning beach. The barrier island functions mainly as a golf resort with private beaches. However, there are many beachside vacation rentals available for a seaside escape.
4. Folly Beach
Folly Beach is what I like to call "a local's beach." It's not super fancy or pricey, but there is a beautiful pier and plenty of local businesses to check out. During the summer, you can watch movies on the beach and visit the washout.
5. Seabrook
Seabrook is known for its white sand and breathtaking sunsets. Being a short drive from Charleston, it offers a quiet retreat away from the hustle and bustle. There is also a top of the line equestrian center and tournament style tennis courts. You can also see the beautiful island in "The Notebook" as well.
6. Isle Of Palms
Only 12 miles outside of Downtown Charleston, this is an upscale beach commonly referred to as "IOP." Isle of Palms is known for its private beaches and exciting events. With over 3,000 acres of homes, parks and beaches, IOP is a beautiful beach to explore.
