Now that Thanksgiving is over, we have reached a very important moment in the holiday season. Whether you celebrate it or not,
Christmas is a magical time for everyone to be a part of. New York City
celebrates this holiday by decorating almost all of Manhattan in beautiful
lights and decorations. Some of these amazing holidays displays are free to
the public, and while others are worth splurging on.
Here are my favorite holiday sights to see in the month of
December!
1. Christmas Displays on Sixth Avenue
The giant ornaments on 6th Avenue, near
Radio City Music Hall, are a holiday staple in New York City. These giant
decorations include holiday ornaments, twinkling lights, Christmas trees, toy
soldiers, and even a model train. The display attracts many tourists for a
perfect holiday photo-op.
2. The Department Store Window Displays
The classic department store window displays are
another tradition that you need to see. SaksFifth Avenue, Barneys, Macy’s, and
other NYC department stores out do themselves year after year as they create
extravagant window displays that attract people from all over the world. SaksFifth Avenue also features an amazing light show on their building.
3. Chelsea Market
Chelsea market is a hidden gem in Manhattan.
While it is always a beautiful place to see, during the holidays it is
decorated with intricate lights. Once you step in you instantly forget that you're in a busy and crowed city.
4. The Radio City Christmas Spectacular
The Radio City Christmas Spectacular, running
from now till December 31st, is a holiday tradition in my family.
Every year we make our way to the city to see this magical show that ignites
our Christmas spirit. While the tickets may be a little pricy, this show is
definitely worth spending on to see.
5. Little Italy
One of my favorite neighborhoods to visit in
Manhattan during the holidays is Little Italy. The narrow streets are decorated
with beautiful lights, and the people who work in these little Italian
restaurants are so welcoming as they invite you in. while you’re there, stop
for a slice of pizza or a delicious bowl of pasta! This is one the most
friendliest areas in the city.
6. Milon
If you aren’t in the mood for Italian food, then
maybe Indian food at this restaurant would suit you better. Located in the East
Village, Milon is an Indian restaurant that stands out among the rest. The
ceiling is covered with over one thousand shining Christmas lights and
decorations that are low enough to touch. The service is amazing, and the food
is very affordable too!
7. Bryant Park
While many people flock to the pricey ice
skating rink at Rockefeller center, others make a more affordable decision and
go the FREE ice skating rink at Bryant Park. Ice skating rentals are $15, but
if you bring your own ice skates you are free to skate around the rink while
gazing up at the skyscrapers that surround the park.
8. Rockefeller Christmas Tree
Last but not least, make sure you get a chance
to see the Christmas tree at Rockefeller center. You might have to elbow a few
people to get a good view, but the size and beauty of the tree will truly take your
breath away. Also, Rockefeller center looks spectacular with all of the decorations
this time of year.
