For almost every girl who goes through recruitment and joins a sorority, they see their house as this absolute real, live castle and they are. Sorority houses are like no other. They capture all of the beauty and memories of each sorority, but what's the raw truth behind living in them?
They are very convenient.
During the week you never have to worry about cooking lunch or dinner. Also, most houses are located on campus or near a bus stop to drive you to campus.
They don't always feel like home.
Sometimes living in one of these extravagant houses is not very "homey" and you recognize that on your walk past a few rooms to your huge, shared bathroom.
It's just a glorified community style dorm.
You don't have a bathroom to yourself. You don't have a room to yourself. Also, most rooms in sorority houses are smaller than dorm rooms.
Sometimes it's very awkward.
You don't know everyone and you're not best friends with everyone, but you see all these people every single day and a lot of times it's just a bunch of awkward soft smiles.
It's quiet a majority of the time.
You'd think with a bunch of girls it'd be a little noisy, but over half of the time, you think you're alone.
You don't hang out with everyone all of the time.
Again, you have your friends who live there with but it's a lot of cliques and you know girls, cliques don't mix.
It isn't always the cheapest option.
Sometimes living in a sorority house is actually more expensive than living off campus or even on campus. You don't think about the fact that while meals are provided most days they are not provided every day which means you are left to fend for yourself and you often don't have the option to cook a meal.
Living there is something every sorority girl should do.
It has its ups and downs, but every sorority girl needs to say they lived in their house at least once.
Every house and school is different, so take from this what you will but do note that you will meet some of your closest friends by living in house!
