Let's be real. In college, planning ahead isn't exactly the wave. Neither is staying ahead. In fact, even staying on track can be really, really difficult if you don't use your time wisely. This mostly means that you need to keep a firm grip on what needs to get done and avoid the distractions that shift your attention. And while that's easy to say, it's definitely easier said than done and one of the main reasons for that is the single biggest culprit behind almost every L that you'll take in college: procrastination.
It's one of those things that sometimes you don't notice you're doing until you're too deep into it. And lowkey, there's a handful of things that you think only you might be doing, but at the end of the day: everyone does it.
For example:
1. Watching Netflix:
Probably responsible for a lot of college all-nighters and late assignments, it's an easy and mind-numbing whole you can get sucked into.
2. Waiting until "the right time":
It starts with a lot of "Oh I'll start studying at 7:30" and then it becomes 7:34... and well... you didn't start at 7:30. Now you just have to wait until 8:00, it's the only thing that makes sense.
3. Taking a nap:
Enough said.
4. Organizing or cleaning:
You could have not touched your closet or laundry in weeks but suddenly before your exam, it seems like the most important thing to do.
5. Putting it off until tomorrow:
It's the moment when "why do it today when you can do it tomorrow," becomes a lifestyle.
6. Looking for a study place or corner:
How are you supposed to study without the PERFECT spot??? And so what if it takes like three hours to find it... haha...
7. EATING:
Like, yeah, you were hungry but did you actually need an hour and thirty to finish a PB&J?
No matter what you're doing to procrastinate, the most important thing is to catch yourself doing it. Once you do that, you'll find yourself better off at switching back to the task at hand.
