Coming to college can be a little bit overwhelming. Especially when you have to start shopping for your dorm. You will have countless trips to Bed Bath and Beyond and Target. So start saving your coupons now! There are a few essential items that I would recommend purchasing before coming to school! I am now in my second semester of freshman year and I have seen what is really necessary for your dorm room and what you can leave at home! Don’t forget you will be sharing a small room with at least one or two other girls who will most likely have just as much stuff as you.

1. Organizers

Living in such a small room means that everything needs to stay organized. I have seen from experience that you need to keep everything organized otherwise your room will turn into a disaster. Some organizers that I would recommend are the under bed bins. I keep 6 of those under my bed and they are all filled with clothes. The school will only give you a small dresser which if you have a lot of clothes will not fit everything you may need. I would also recommend buying desk organizers. I have a paper organizer, desk calendar and a mini set of drawers for my pens and pencils.

2. Air fresheners

Air fresheners and spray are two things that you can never have enough of living in a dorm. A dorm is your living room, kitchen, bed room and everything in between which means that it will eventually start to smell. Air fresheners are 100% essential for your dorm.

3. Decorations

If your living in an older dorm on campus like I am you will most likely have white cinder block walls. Cinder block walls are not something that you want to look at. Bring pictures of friends and family to remind you of home, posters and some canvases with some cute sayings.

4. Keurig

Keurig’s are a necessity for living in a dorm. Even if you don’t drink coffee they can be used for so many different things. For example, making tea, soup, cup of noddle’s, oatmeal, and etc. I would highly recommend investing in one.

5. Steamer/Iron

Due to the fact that you don’t have a lot of room to hang stuff up in closet a steamer or iron is a necessity to unwrinkled clothes. Also, an iron can be used for a few things that you wouldn’t expect. For example, toasting a bagel or making a grilled cheese sandwich, yum!

6. Fans

Most dorms do not have air conditioning. Which means in the beginning and end of the school year it tends to be a little warm. You will need a few fans to cool down your room nicely.

7. Step stool

If you are short like me, you will definetly need a step stool in your dorm room. I use it for everything, to get onto my bed, to clean and to reach things in the closet.

Happy Shopping!!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
