If you're here out of curiosity from the cover photo of this article, you're in the right place. That means piercings intrigue you. Are you, perhaps, looking to do something risque in 2018 to step a bit out of your comfort zone but not too far?
The following piercings are the top piercings to get in, or at least considered, for this new year. I got most of my information from real life and the interweb.
1. Nose
This is a piercing I got done for my 18th birthday. My cousin did it in the comfort of my home using alcohol, a sewing needle, and a lighter. Not that I fully recommend that, but this is a subtle piercing that is gradually increasing in popularity. It looks good on both nostrils. Some people even get both done! It’s a great look. It was one of my first piercings and for me, it was a 2/10 on the pain scale. I definitely recommend a nose piercing to any who are slightly interested because it will always be one of my favorites!
2. Smiley
This is a piercing I didn't see often, but when I did, I always thought it was cute, then my brother got it done! In my opinion, it's discreet and it solves the small solution of having a lotta gum when you smile (I'm a victim of this, don't worry). The jewelry for it varies but is really good looking nonetheless. Just think of it as a smile bedazzler!
3. Cartilage
This is a piercing I got in the summer of 2017 that my best friend actually performed with alcohol, a lighter, and a sewing needle. It took a bit for one to heal, but the one that healed the quickest looks awesome with a hoop I put in. It's one of my favorite piercings and if I'm being honest, sometimes I do my hair just so you can see it. Shown above is a pixely screenshot of my cartilage piercing featuring my beloved hoop.
4. Septum
My best friend got her septum pierced last summer after wanting it for years. Once she finally did it, she fell in love with it and looked absolutely badass. This is another piercing I'm interested in getting. If the hoop or jewelry you decide on, if you get this piercing, is small enough, you can flip the ring up and hide it if necessary for a job or if you wanna mix it up someday without taking it out or something. This piercing is super awesome and definitely something to consider to broaden your horizons a bit.
5. Daith
This is a piercing I heard of really recently because I have headaches and migraines frequently throughout the week. My aunt suggested this piercing to me since it substitutes the sensations of acupuncture by keeping something piercing pressure points to alleviate migraine pain at all times (or times that the piercing is in). Not only does it have a variety of different jewelry, it's super cute and could help solve a tedious problem such as migraines.
6. Tongue
Here's yet another piercing my brother had. All I remember with this one is he came home, showed me across the dinner table, told me not to tell anyone, and loaded his plate with tons of mashed potatoes. I remember his tongue was puffy for awhile, so I heard it's best to wear larger barbells until swelling lessens. According to Rebels Market, it's easy to maintain and a piercing considered by those who don't have any piercings. So what is there to lose??
7. Nipples
Don't knock it before you try it.I know you're rolling your eyes at me. I'm aware that it sounds crazy, but I got mine done recently. This piercing hurts like hell, but it doesn't last that long. I had a friend come along for moral support, the music playing in the tattoo shop didn't throw me into a panic, and the guy who did it wasn't awkward at all. It took a half an hour, tops. It may sound scary and partially traumatizing at first, but the aftermath means cute boobs and no bra ever again ever (not that most girls weren't already not wearing them anyway). All you have to really do to maintain it is to wash it with soap and water in the shower. I mean it when I say don't knock it til you try, but beware: you may need a higher pain tolerance. It's only a few seconds, but oh man.
Here’s to a 2018 filled with new adventures, new piercings, and a new look!
