It is summer in Wichita, so you know what that means! Riverfest! So most people when they hear Riverfest they tend to think white trash reunion. That may or may not be true, but hey, we live in Wichita so you’re not going to find much better than this! Riverfest is made up of many fun activities to do! Got nothing to do? Go hit up Riverfest and walk around, you’re bound to find something fun! There’s anything from food stands to live bands to fireworks. Here’s a cheat sheet of the top six things to do while at Riverfest if you ever find yourself in little, old downtown Wichita, KS:

1. Paddle boats.

It's a hot day outside and you want to get yourself out on the water but have nowhere to go? Never fear, Riverfest is here! Go grab yourself a paddleboat at Cox Kids Corner every day (except Saturdays) from 3-8:30 p.m. Saturday, June 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday, June 11 from noon to 4 p.m.

2. Zipline.

“Did she just say zip line?” Yes, I just said zip line. $10 with a Riverfest button on the eastside of the river at Ackerman’s Backyard. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays noon-8 p.m. and Monday- Thursday 5:30-8 p.m.

3. People watch.

I don't know about you, but I am a big fan of watching to see what kinds of weird things people will do when nobody's watching. Feel like going and finding some people with rainbow colored hair or pants halfway down their ankles? Then Riverfest is the place for you!

4. Co-ed softball tournament.

Saturday, June 11, 9 a.m. at Westside Athletic Field. Grab some friends and go hit some dingers! Tons of fun and lots of memories to be made.

5. Sand volleyball.

Saturday and Sunday, June 11th and 12th at Watson Park. Get your team together, whether a team of two’s, four’s, or six’s and have a fun filled day! (Small fee depending on team size).

6. Fireworks!

They will be on Saturday, June 11 at 10:30 p.m. to wrap up the fun filled week of awesomeness! What’s better than spending your evening walking up and down the river and sitting on the grass next to the bridge to watch giant fireworks with family and friends? (Free! Even better).

Hopefully, this list was helpful to those of you who are in the proximity of Wichita. If all else fails, each night there is always a band playing and food stands everywhere so hit up wichitariverfest.com if you want to see a complete list of all the activities going on! Some events may need a Riverfest button, which you can find at your local gas stations. Grab some friends from "Friends" or even friends not from "Friends" and have a ball!

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
