Over the course of recent years, talent shows across such as America's Got Talent and Britain's Got Talent have risen to prominence. These programs showcase some of the most entertaining acts that have perhaps never been seen before.
Any contestant who intends to win must make their way through the various stages by first impressing the judges in their initial audition and then must impress the voters across their country in order to win the competition's grand prize.
Personally, my favorite phase of the competition is the very first one: The Audition. This is because in this part the most surprises occur on the show and therefore, most of the excitement takes place during this phase.
Before every audition, we learn a little about each act as the contestant will often introduce themselves stating their name, occupation, and age. Usually, we also hear the story behind what made the people want to perform on each particular talent show. Around this time, we all start making judgments as to whether we want to take this act seriously or not. While the mood is set by the time the act begins, we never truly know what to expect from each particular person.
Over the course of this whole process, we encounter a flurry of fails, successes, and surprises as we begin to pick who we might be cheering for to win the show. For me, the best auditions in the show are the ones that combine a great performance with an emotional story. With that being said, here are the top 6 emotional auditions on talent shows.
6. Susan Boyle Britain's Got Talent
Gotta love a big surprise. What makes this act emotional is not Susan Boyle's reaction to the audience and the judges, but it is the sheer surprise that indeed we should all not judge a book by its cover. After her time on Britain's got talent, her music career took off and she currently has labels with Sony Music, Syco, and Columbia.
5. Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. America's Got Talen
After dropping out of high school and being homeless at age 19, Landau certainly faced a lot of struggles in his life before he arrived on the scene at America's got talent. Before the act starts, everybody is laughing but by the time he finishes singing "I've got you under my skin" nobody is laughing anymore. The most moving part of this audition is the moment Landau realizes after years of selling himself short and washing cars, he is capable of so much more in his life. His 1st Album, Thats Life, saw great success as it peaked at #34 on the BillBoard200. He continues to record music with Sony and Columbia Records.
4. Jaycob Curlee America's Got Talent
When his parents left him at age 5, Jaycob was taken to foster care with his sister. After facing rejection from various sets of parents, Jaycob and his sister were adopted at 8 by a loving set of parents. There's a lot of emotion in this captivating performance and his hug at the end with his "number one fan" is truly a moment they'll both never forget. He has not jumped to fame outside of America's Got Talent just yet, however, he is still young with plenty of time.
3. Andrew De Leon America's Got Talent
What a moment. After feeling alienated and facing rejection his whole life, Andrew got the courage to go up and give the performance of a lifetime in what was actually his first performance in front of anybody. It was hard to believe that he kept his voice a secret for this long and had never received any training at all. He is currently an artist performing decent gigs at various places. However, he has not reached great fame beyond his America's Got Talent exploits.
2. Charlotte and Jonathan Britain's Got Talent
Throughout his life, Jonathan faced many struggles with his weight. You can tell how much it bothers him as he and his partner, Charlotte, tell their story. Despite his lack of confidence, the duo knock the audition out of the park. Its amazing how instantly Jonathan wins over the most critical judge from any talent show, Simon Cowell. They each have signed solo record deals with Sony Classical and continue their professional music exploits.
1. Sungbong Choi Korea's Got Talent
As Sungbong Choi or "Homeless Boy" tells the story of his life, you just can't help but wonder how he was able to make it in front of the judges and deliver this inspirational performance. A theme we have seen throughout these emotional auditions is the people in the act reaching a life-changing epiphany that they are great at something. And it has never been more evident than here. He currently records with Bong Bong Company.
I'll see you guys later after I grab a box of tissues and sit in bed crying all day.
