If you're like me, you love to spend your Saturday in a good coffee shop. It's just so nice to be in a quiet environment to write articles and whatnot. It's even better to be sipping on a black coffee or rich hot chocolate while you're at it. If you live in Grand Rapids, here are some of my personal favorites--the coffee places to hit up if you're looking to find peace of mind:

1. Sugar Momma's Bakery and Cafe

This is a super cute corner to study! They serve great sandwiches, including an adult Grilled Cheese that's to die for. They also make the greatest pastries, including a Morning Glory muffin that is the definition of glorious. Not to mention, the workers here are so sweet and welcoming! It's also a really quiet place, if that's what you're looking for to relax and just think about life. Sugar Momma's will have you coming back again and again.

2. JW's Coffeehouse

This place is also very cute and cozy. If you come here enough, the workers will know your usual order and have it ready by the time you walk in the door. There's a huge variety of flavors and syrups for your coffee--the possibilities are endless. Again, a quiet spot to study. They also have Morning Glory muffins. They are also amazing.

3. The Sparrows Tea and Newsstand

A really, really cute place. It's a bit small but very boho and down-to-earth. It's constantly teeming with people enjoying their teas and coffees. There's a stand with many, many flavors of tea in little jars for you to smell. If you, like me, are a tea fanatic, Sparrows is a must-visit. I promise you their Raspberry Green tea will be the prettiest tea you ever drink--it's a rosy pink color.

4. Common Ground Coffee House

I'm actually sitting at Common Ground right now, as I type. I've been sitting here for about four hours. I could sit here all day. It's so relaxing, the sun shining through the window, warming my cheeks. The pictures and paintings on the wall are extremely relaxing, and the hot chocolate is rich and delicious. It shouldn't come as a surprise that they also have amazing Morning Glory muffins. If you can't tell, I have an obsession with those things.

5. Jamnbean Coffee Company

There are multiple Jamnbean locations throughout Grand Rapids, and each one is cuter than the next. I believe there are three as of right now--one in Ada, one downtown, and one on Cascade. They serve great ice cream in the summer, though I usually go for coffee in the winter. The Ada location features a very music-themed menu, with smoothies and juices that have Music-Note-Puns in their names. It's a good time. Also, their Coffee Clove cookies are uniquely delicious.

6. Nonna's Pantry

Okay, first of all: they have Morning Glory muffins here as well. That's enough to sell me. Besides that, Nonna's is just a very homestyle, cozy place. It's cute and a visit here leaves you feeling warmth in your heart. The workers here are super nice and helpful, and their Chai Tea Lattes are really something else.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
