Top 5 Video Games Of 2016

This past week, the annual The Game Awards show was held in Los Angeles to honor some of the best games of 2016. Michael Phelps even showed up to honor esports athletes, who have been gaining major traction in the sporting world. The most coveted award at the show is the Game of the Year award, for which five games were nominated. Blizzard's multiplayer first person shooter game "Overwatch" won it out. However, that doesn't mean that we should forget the other nominees! All of these games are amazing, interactive, and make you want to play more. Here I have given a brief overview of all 5 games nominated for Game of the Year, which makes these some of the best games of 2016.

1. Titanfall 2

A beautiful first person shooter, Titanfall 2 serves as a sequel to its predecessor Titanfall. Titanfall 2 has a single player campaign as well as multiplayer, which adds new kinds of play to the franchise. You can play as a soldier and a Titan, a huge mech-suit robot, blasting and zipping your way through cities and other landscapes. Not only are multiplayer matches fun and addictive, the plot of the single player campaign is also immersive and intriguing. Titanfall 2 pulls you in with good game play and campaign. It is definitely worth checking out this holiday season. Titanfall 2 is available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

2. Inside

Inside is a visually intriguing game due to its 2.5D graphics that create a side scrolling environment for you to explore. As the player, you control a boy in a red shirt who must avoid death by solving various environmental puzzles. The story line is creepy and intriguing from the second the game begins. Inside is an Indie game that has won huge acclaim, grabbing the Best Independent Game award at The Game Awards 2016. The style and play of this game is like no other. Inside is available to play on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

3. Doom

The fourth installment in the series, Doom is an intense first person shooter where you can play single player or multiplayer. In the single player campaign, you play as a soldier fighting back demons that have been released from Hell on Mars. Sounds crazy, right? And it is! Crazy awesome! Upgrade your character and traverse the planet fighting these evil creatures, or play some multiplayer death matches. It's up to you, but the game play for both is captivating. Visuals and audio make you feel like part of the game as you progress through the levels. Doom definitely deserves to be one of the highest rated games in the series, as well as one of the best games of 2016. Doom is available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

4. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

Another installment in the Uncharted series, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End has an incredible story line and while it was only nominated for Game of the Year, it did win Best Narrative as well as Best Performance by a voice actor. However, not only is the plot amazingly developed and acted, the game play itself is fast paced and fun. The graphics are beautiful, making you feel as if you truly are out on a treasure hunt. In addition to the single player campaign, you can also play as the characters in competitive multiplayer. Join Nathan Drake once more to get yourself into some trouble that you'll have to Indiana Jones your way out of with Uncharted 4, a PS4 exclusive.

5. Overwatch

And here we have the Game of the Year, Overwatch! Overwatch is an incredibly fun and addictive multiplayer first person shooter. You choose to play from over 20 different characters each match, each character with their own unique ability. You are placed on a team with which you must learn to work to achieve your goals. The competitive aspect of Overwatch has turned it into an esports favorite overnight. The game is updated often to include new characters, new maps to play, and new features. Overwatch hosts seasonal events that allow you to earn collectible items. Everything about the game, from its fun game play to its brightly colored characters is awesome. With both ranked and unranked modes, you can decide how hardcore gamer you wish to be, but remember to have fun! Overwatch is available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.

To My Loving Boyfriend,

  • Thank you for all that you do for me
  • Thank you for working through disagreements with me
  • Thank you for always supporting me
  • I appreciate you more than words can express
  • You have helped me grow and become a better person
  • I can't wait to see where life takes us next
  • I promise to cherish every moment with you
  • Thank you for being my best friend and confidante
  • I love you and everything you do

To start off, here's something I don't say nearly enough: thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You do so much for me that I can't even put into words how much I appreciate everything you do - and have done - for me over the course of our relationship so far. While every couple has their fair share of tiffs and disagreements, thank you for getting through all of them with me and making us a better couple at the other end. With any argument, we don't just throw in the towel and say we're done, but we work towards a solution that puts us in a greater place each day. Thank you for always working with me and never giving up on us.

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. Hauppauge is home to people of all kinds. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here. Around the town, there are some just some landmarks and places that only the people of Hauppauge will ever understand the importance or even the annoyance of.
