Top 5 Underrated Disney Movies

It's no secret that I am a huge Disney nerd. I grew up watching movies like "The Little Mermaid" and "Beauty and the Beast" over and over again. Fast-forward 19 years later and I am still captivated by the magic of Disney. During this time I've noticed that out of all the Disney movies in existence, there are a select few that receive all the hype and attention (take "Frozen" for example). It is quite easy to forget all the other films that are just as magical and entertaining as the popular ones.

Here is a list of the five most underrated Disney movies you need to watch, like, right now.

5. "Brave" (2012)

Although "Brave" is a relatively new movie, I don't believe it was ever given the credit it deserves. I appreciate what its creators did with Merida, a Scottish princess with wild, fiery hair and a temper to match. She doesn't fit the stereotypical princess mold, and unlike the majority of Disney princess movies, the film isn't centered on her relationship with a man. Rather, it focuses on her relationship with her mother, which is a refreshing twist to an otherwise predictable plot. Throw in some archery and witchcraft, and you have an original idea and a truly entertaining watch.

4. "Bolt" (2008)

I remember seeing "Bolt" at the movies and loving every second of it. Bolt is a canine superstar who doesn't know the difference between his TV show and reality. After a mishap at the studio, he ends up thousands of miles away from home, completely unable to fend for himself. Accompanied by a sassy cat and an action-loving hamster, he makes his way back to Hollywood while at the same time learning what it means to be an ordinary dog. This movie doesn't get much attention, and this needs to change ASAP.

3. "Emperor's New Groove" (2000)

"The Emperor's New Groove" has to be one of the funniest Disney movies in existence. The plot revolves around Kuzco, a selfish, spoiled emperor who plans to level a small village for his own benefit. The unexpected happens when Kuzco's evil advisor tries to poison him, but accidentally turns him into a talking llama. It sounds completely ridiculous, but as always, Disney makes this crazy idea work. This movie will leave you with a case of the giggles and a plethora of quotes to add to your daily conversations ("Pull the lever, Kronk!").

2. "Meet the Robinsons" (2007)

Many people haven't even heard of "Meet the Robinsons." This movie plays with the concept of time travel, which sets it apart from all the other Disney films. The audience can easily relate to Lewis, an inventive orphan struggling to find acceptance and family in an unforgiving world. A quote from Walt Disney is repeated throughout the film, which can be applied to each and every one of our lives: "Keep moving forward." "Meet the Robinsons" is a heartwarming story with a surprising twist at the end, and you should definitely consider giving this movie a try.

1. "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (1996)

It's a shame nobody talks about "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" anymore, because it really is a spectacular movie. It deals with surprisingly mature topics for a children's movie, its powerful story teaching us that appearances aren't everything. This is best seen in the character of Quasimodo, the lonely bell-ringer of Notre Dame Cathedral. With its beautiful music and convincing characters, this gem should not be overlooked in favor of the more popular Disney classics.

So what are you waiting for? Grab some popcorn and a friend and go enjoy these underappreciated films!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
