1. "Donnie Darko" (2001)
A film about a young high school boy, how one small detail can make all the difference, and so much more.
2. "Brazil" (1985)
In a bureaucratic, dystopian society, one man stands alone in the madness. If you like films that make statements about how absurd modern society is in a comedic way, you'll love this one.
3. "Weekend" (1967)
Even though this film is fairly hard to follow, it gives an exaggerated, comedic look into the class gap in France in the 1960's. (Trigger warnings: blood, sexual assault, rape).
4. "Stranger Things" (2016)
Though this is a tv show, it still falls under the category surreal film. The fandom and craze for this show are crazy right now, and for good reason. If you haven't taken the time yet, watch it!
5. "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" (2005)
This is an all-time personal favorite. I've watched it countless times since I was a kid, and it gets me every time. It's a science fiction, surreal film in which one man sets out to prevent his house from being bulldozed and ends up going on a galactic adventure and saving planet earth. The real question though is..."what is the meaning of life?"
