Lin-Manuel is, without a doubt, a genius of this century; the man who writes like he's running out of time. He took the brilliant story of one of America's Founding Fathers and turned it into a successful rap opera on Broadway. A large fanbase soon formed, and they couldn't get enough. A year later, Lin came out with an album that reached the top charts instantly. The Hamilton Mixtape. Filled with remixes and covers of the original soundtrack, it was an instant hit. Here are the top five songs from this brilliant album.
1. Immigrants (We Get The Job Done)
"Immigrants, we get the job done."
This is one of the most popular lines in the whole musical, and Lin wrote an entire song based off of it. Sung by K'naan, Snow The Product, Riz MC & Residente, this song is about how the country that was originally built off of immigration is now against it, and how most work these days is performed by under-appreciated immigrants. Truly an eye opening song.
A cover of one of the most popular songs done by the hilarious Jimmy Fallon, whats not to love?
3. History Has It's Eyes On You
Without a doubt one of the most beautiful songs from the musical has been covered by John Legend. Bringing a new sound to the popular song, this is truly a song anyone will love.
4. Congratulations
This was a song originally cut from the Broadway show but was featured in their Off-Broadway version; it consists of what Angelica Schuyler said to Hamilton when she returned home after word spread of Hamilton's affair with Maria Reynolds. This song truly represents the love Angelica has for her sister.
5. Say Yes To This
This steamy song originally called "Say No To This" is the start of Hamilton's affair, and in this remix it's told from the perspective of the seductive mistress Maria Reynolds. This song represents the powers of a woman. "How can you say no to me?"
If you haven't listened to the mixtape or Hamilton itself, I strongly recommend it; it is unlike anything you will ever hear.
