I think we can all relate and say how much we love to call Maine our home. This, for myself, is the only place I’ve ever been able to call home and I know many of the natives can say the same. But, Maine wouldn’t be the same if we didn’t have any of these 5 wonderful things.

1. Four wonderful seasons

Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn are not only amazing in Maine, but they make it worth living here. We can all say that we’ve had a brutal winter living here or an insanely hot summer, we wouldn't change it for the world. Autumn has to be my favorite, and no it’s not because pumpkin everything, it’s the feel it brings in the air. Oh, and don’t let me forget the beautiful scenic photographs you get here!

2. Whoopie Pie Galore

Pumpkin, Maple, Chocolate chip, or original flavors - doesn’t matter to us, we will eat them all. Maine is not just known for having the best fresh lobstern but for having amazing whoopie pies. My personal favorite is the Pumpkin. Not special bakery either. But if you’re looking to a whooping amount of fun, we’re even cool enough to have a whoopie pie festival!

3. You Can Swim Everywhere

With having a little over 32,000 miles of rivers and streams, 6,000 lakes and ponds and the ocean, you can’t go wrong with finding somewhere to swim. We have a spot for you. Luckily we won’t have alligators coming at you. Just Wessie (the neighborhood snake) if you’re in the Westbook river. Personal favorites are definitely Sebago Lake and Willard Beach - I’ve been swimming in those lakes and beaches for my entire life! Beats swimming in a pool any day.

4. Sunsets/ Sunrises

I’ve never seen anything more beautiful than the sunsets and sun rises that come here in the morning. Many are so breathtaking that you can’t even capture a picture of because it it’s so beautiful. From the reds, blues, and pinks everyone should be waking up at the crack of dawn to see these amazing sights.

5. City lights or Mountain Tops

One of my absolute favorite things about living in Maine is that you get the best of both worlds. Whether it is sitting on the top of Bradbury Mountain or looking at the city skyline from Dimillo’s, we have a little something for everyone. That’s what I love the most. We are not just city lights, but we have a countryside as well. Gives it a real home feeling.

There are so many other reasons why I love to call Maine my home, I could go on for hours. We all have a place to call home. I’m forever grateful for my lakes, mountains and whoopie pies that make me feel sane. There is a reason our license plates have the phrase “Vacation Land” on them. If you’re not from here, I hope that these five little sneak peeks of what this amazing state has to offer makes you come visit us soon.

When I was learning how to talk, I was taught both Portuguese and English at the same time. In elementary school, I started taking mandatory Spanish classes, which I did well in because of my knowledge of Portuguese. Then in high school, on top of taking Spanish, I also started taking French. Now, in college, already fluent in English and Portuguese, I'm in the process of becoming fluent in Spanish, and I have a standard high school level understanding of French.

I am without a doubt one of those people who refuses to start decorating for Christmas or listen to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, Thanksgiving has become an underrated holiday over the years. You barely see any Thanksgiving decorations in stores; it's like they skip right from Halloween to Christmas.

Here are some ideas as to what you can do to get the most out of your Thanksgiving break.
