I was not so sure what to make of the show at first. Granted, I had been hearing about it from many friends, but I didn't necessarily feel I had to watch it with urgency. Back in October the first season of Jane the Virgin was released on Netflix. I had completed all my homework that Saturday during that weekend and needed to give myself something of a break. I decided it was as good a time as any to try something new.

Somehow I still managed to keep everything together in my life academically and socially even though I finished the first season before Thanksgiving break. Even now I'm still amazed that I was able to stop binging to do other work (more will of course be explained in the list below).

And it didn't end there. Not long after I was in the middle of the first season, I found out one of my close friends had also just gotten into the show. When winter break finally arrived, I showed it to my family and even they were quickly hooked. It got to a point that one of my sisters would continue watching episodes on her own and was a few episodes ahead of my parents.

I was initially worried about how a second season would play out, but even as it moves forward so many new ideas and obstacles are brought to the table for the characters that do not make any of it feel like a repeat of the first season. While the second season has not yet ended and the CW has yet to make a decision concerning a third season, I encourage those of y'all who haven't seen Jane the Virgin yet to do so for these reasons:

1. It is basically an English speaking telenovela

2. The unseen narrator is both hilarious and understands the audience.

3. Immigration issues are addressed.

4. The female characters are well written and extremely interesting, especially the dynamic between Jane, her mother, and her grandmother.

5. Just when you think they couldn’t possibly have any more twists, they manage to keep you hooked with bigger surprises.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
