Over the summer, I had been contemplating getting a pet for my apartment, and since dogs are not exactly allowed, and I don't like cats too much, and fish are not cuddly or soft in the slightest, I decided to peruse some other options. I came upon the idea of getting a pet rabbit, and for the past month my bunny, Scarlett, and I have become very close. I adopted her from the humane society and I want all of you to know the reasons why I think you should get a pet bunny.
1. They are adorable
I thought I would get the most obvious one out of the way first, I mean who doesn't think bunnies are adorable? Their cute little faces and ears, and the way they hop around. My favorite is when Scarlett starts to groom herself and rubs her paws on her cheeks. Not to mention, the infamous binky. A binky is when a bunny gets so excited and happy that they hop around and while they are in midair they kind of shake and twitch. If you have never seen a bunny binky, you are missing out on hours worth of YouTube-watching!
2. They are very clean
Many people find this surprising, since we often associate rabbits with hamsters and guinea pigs, the messier small animals. However, rabbits are huge groomers, which means that if I ruffle Scarlett's fur the wrong way, she runs away and immediately tends to it so that she stays clean and looks nice. I think of rabbits as one of the most perfectionistic animals out there, and probably the most vain too. In addition to grooming, rabbits can be litter trained, just like cats, which means less mess for you to clean up!
3. They have their own personalities
While I was researching about whether or not to get a rabbit, I often read that rabbits have their own distinct personalities, and I found this to be very true with Scarlett. I have found that she can be quite the diva: if she is in her little cardboard house and I need to get to her she will just stay in there and come out on her own time. On the other hand, she is very affectionate and often runs to the edge of her pen when I walk into the room, and usually nudges my hand for me to continue petting her even if I decide that my hand is too tired.
4. They don't make noise
Compared to dogs and even cats, bunnies are practically silent, they can't vocalize sounds at all. The only time you hear a rabbit is when they chew on something or move toys around in their pen. This means no noise complaints from your neighbors and gives you a nice quiet place to study with your stress-busting friend.
5. Stress-reducing
Everyone says that petting dogs or cats is therapeutic and helps to reduce stress, but this also applies to rabbits too! One night when I was completely overwhelmed and panicking, I picked up Scarlett and pet her for awhile, and I was able to calm down and breathe and just forget everything for a little while. It was kind of weird how fast it worked it for me.
So, here are my top reasons for getting a bunny, do you have any to add, or are you inspired to get your own?
