It's hard to deny that 90s shows were the best compared to what is shown to children nowadays. Back in the 90s, everything was bright, colorful, and animated. Kid shows recently shown are mostly real people acting instead of animation. What few shows that are still animated are actually on the borderline of being inappropriate for its audience. '90s shows were about making life eventful, telling us about girl power and that bad things happen. They told us that we can be anything we want whether it was a scientist or a world traveler. Here are only a few shows that I loved as a child that should have stayed on the air.
1. "Rugrats"
"Rugrats" was on Nickelodeon from 1991- 2004 and was the most memorable from my childhood. The show was about life from a baby's point of view. The main character of the show was Tommy Pickles, a bald one-year-old baby that walks around pigeon-toed in a blue t-shirt and diaper. His parents are Didi and Stu Pickles, and grandfather (who lived in the same house) was called Grandpa Lou Pickles. In the later season, Tommy gets a little brother by the name of Dylan Pickles, also known as Dil Pickles. The other children in the Television series when it first started were Angelica Pickles (Tommy's cousin), Chuckie Finster (Tommy's best friend), Lillian (Lil) DeVille and Phillip DeVille (Phil) who are twins. The other children who were added later on were Susie Carmichael (Angelica's "frenemy"), and Kimi Finster (Chuckie's sister by marriage).
2. "The Powerpuff Girls"
"The Powerpuff Girls" is a Cartoon Network creation that was played from 1998 - 2005 and has recently been brought back with a new look. The show is about three little super-powered girls who were created accidentally in a lab by Professor Utonium, who becomes their father. Blossom, the one in red/pink, was the calm, cool-headed girl who made her the perfect fit to be in charge. Bubbles, the girl in blue with pigtails, had a personality that fit her name perfectly. She was bubbly, sweet, and innocent; she carried around a little doll as well quite often. Buttercup was the girl in green with short black hair -- she was the tough sister who was sometimes a bully to her sisters. All three sisters used their powers to fight off villains such as Mojo Jojo, a super intelligent black monkey that turns out to be one of Professor Utonium's experiments as well.
3. "Dexter's Laboratory"
"Dexter's Laboratory" was played from 1996 - 2003 and is about a boy genius named Dexter (the boy with orange hair) who creates these outstanding inventions in his secret laboratory. These experiments are always ruined by his sister Dee Dee (the blonde girl) or his arch nemesis Mandark (the tallest boy with a glare). It was one of the first of the network's Cartoon Cartoons and with its high ratings, it became one of the network's most popular series.
4. "The Wild Thornberrys"
"The Wild Thornberrys" aired on Nickelodeon from 1993 - 2004 and was about a family that traveled around and went on adventures. Eliza, the younger daughter, is brilliant and "geeky". Eliza also can talk to animals which she uses to during her explorations, but her gift is hidden from her family because she was told she would lose her gift if she told anyone. Her best friend is Darwin, a chimpanzee, who travels along with the family who is brilliant as well. Debbie is the oldest daughter who acts like the typical teenage girl. She loves fashion, makeup, music, boys and is always complaining about something; typically about her family's way of life. Donnie is a feral child that was raised by orangutans after his real parents were killed by poachers. The orangutans gave Donnie to the Thornberrys so he could have a human family, it was revealed that the Thornberrys knew Donnie's real parents. Sir Nigel Archibald is the children's father who is from Britain. Him and his wife, Marianne, travel around and video tape nature documentaries for their show while their children get themselves in crazy and fun situations.
5. "Boy Meets World"
"Boy Meets World" was an American sitcom played on ABC from 1993 - 2000. It was about a boy named Cory Matthews who, with the help of his friends and love of his life, Topanga, juggles the problems that an average child and teenager would face in daily living. The story starts off with Cory in sixth grade and continues all the way to college.
