Top 5 Independent Artists You Should Know
Maatii K. Dungy

Here are 5 independent artists you should be aware of. These artists music range from genres such as hip-hop, R&B and Christian rap. Some of them blend genres together and make their own unique genre. Each artist is cool in their own right and brings flavor to their respective genres. They are not afraid to shake up the music scene and add their own unique flair.

1. Jay Bless from Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Jay Bless is not your typical rapper. He talks about his hometown with creative lyrics. He also does not talk about the same subject matter the majority of rappers speak on. He talks about improving yourself and having pride for your hometown. He is very big in the underground hip-hop scene. He is a jack of all trades and stays true to himself. You can find his music on iTunes, Google Play, and Amazon.

2. Tish Mone from Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Tish Mone is one artist who exudes confidence, uniqueness, and cool style. She is a triple treat. She sings, dances, and acts. She acts on a show called "Corrupt." It is about a group of people who fight for power over one another. You can find her music on Soundcloud. Up next is Donte Kentrell from Queens, New York.

3. Donte Kentrell

Another triple treat that is making waves in the music industry. He is a singer, dancer, and model. He recently started a challenge called #SauceChallange to promote his new single. His music is a unique blend of R&B and the ability to make hits. You can check him out on Facebook and find his music on Soundcloud. If you like women in the hip-hop industry, you will love Loren Riche.

4. Loren Riche

A triple threat out of Atlanta, Georgia. She is a singer, model, and songwriter. She is unapologetic about who she is and what she stands for. She has worked with Malik Yusef and other artists on various projects such as, "Good Morning, Good Night." You can find her on Facebook under Loren Riche Vogue. You can find her music on Soundcloud and YouTube. Our final artist is one who can take hip-hop and make it Christian but maintain the roots of hip-hop.

5. Young Saint

An artist who defies the boundaries of hip-hop. He is able to connect to teenagers and their parents without the use of explicit lyrics. He is able to uplift people and inspire them to keep moving forward in life. He shows people that you may go through a tough or difficult situation, but you can make it better. He just came out with a new album entitled, "Transition." You can find his music on iTunes.

These artists may be independent, but they speak to people and inspire them. I have had the chance to meet all five of these artists and they are wonderful people. I love the message that each of them have to share with the world. I think that the world needs to hear them because they can inspire you to do great things. Check them out and share them with others.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
