You would think you’ve escaped the heat since summer has come to an end, but not in Arizona. One would assume that Arizona natives would be used to this heat by now; however, as a native myself, I'd have to say that is completely untrue. Even though you can’t get used to the heat, you can still momentarily escape it with an ice cream fix. What better way to cool yourself down? The creamy, cold goodness is bound to make you feel better. Below, I’m going to provide a list of my top 5 ice cream shops in the valley. These ice cream shops not only have palatable ice creams, but are also aesthetically pleasing.

1. Frost (Gilbert)

Frost is a franchise well-known for their authentic Italian Gelato. They highly advertise the fact that their gelato is much healthier and tastier compared to normal ice cream, which makes you feel a little less guilty eating it. While they are well-known for their gelato, they also sell sorbets, cakes, coffees, and other drinks. So, if you don't want ice cream, there's always something else you can try.

2150 E Williams Field Rd

Unit 120

Gilbert, AZ 85295

2. Ice Cream Sammies (Chandler)

Ice Cream Sammies is an ice cream shop started by two soccer moms. They are recognized for their ice cream sandwiches which are made fresh daily from scratch! Fresh ice cream sandwiches made from scratch? Who could say no to that?

135 W Boston St

Chandler, AZ 85225

3. Just Roll With It (Tempe)

Just Roll With It is a little more unique than the other ice cream places. It’s not your average ice cream or gelato served in scoops. While it is served in a cup, their specialty is Thai Rolled Ice Cream. Yes, it’s the ice cream from the videos you see on your social media. They use an ice cream base they make themselves and turn it into solid ice cream right before your eyes on a frozen skillet.

940 E University Dr

Unit 104

Tempe, AZ 85281

4. Fatty Daddy's (Scottsdale)

Fatty Daddy’s serve hand crafted gourmet ice cream. They are distinguished for their amazing cookie cups which are pleasing to the tongue and Instagram worthy. It all starts with a scoop of ice cream with a macaron, topped with a giant toasted Mallow. The gooey Mallow topped on the crunchy macaron and creamy ice cream creates the perfect dessert harmony. This doesn’t sound appealing enough? Not only do they serve these amazing cookie cups, they also have gourmet ice cream and sorbets, as well as coffees and pastries.

1608 N Miller Rd

Unit 5

Scottsdale, AZ 85257

5. Melt (Phoenix)

Melt is an ice cream shop in Phoenix, Arizona that serves their ice cream in a Chinese to-go box, topped with a fortune cookie. They are famous for their aesthetics, but their ice cream flavors still do them justice. Not a fan of the aesthetic? No worries, you can still get one in a regular cone.

910 n 5TH St

Phoenix, AZ 85004

So, if you love ice cream just as much as I do, most definitely check these out.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter
morethanwheels

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
